You know you are an audiophile when you are trying to get your girlfriend a Custom IEM so she will understand when you say "there is a lot of good detail missing from song played from the car stereo system".

When you get depressed by the realisation that by the time you're old enough to afford a top of the line rig, you'll no longer have the hearing capacity to appreciate it. And hating the irony of living as a young student with a brilliant hearing range, but not having the funds to feed it.
