I managed to get one through gumtree for $100. What a steal! Its winter now here in Australia and I use it as ear warmers while enjoying the amazing sound quality haha!

Yea me too. Everything I have researched about these seems like they may be really good all a rounders for me. Really interesting FR on these. Seems really good for punk rock and Jpop/Rock and the extreme bass guys have these things rumbling with tons of sub bass when amped and bass boosted, so hip hop, dubstep and all that seem doable too. Hopefully these work out . only complaint that resonates with most people is the hugeness and uncomfortability of these things. Hoping my round head and the fact that I'ma headphones over a ballcap kinda guy helps with that.

Fingers crossed...

That's true. The 'ergonomics' is what keeps me from ever using them anymore. But I love the tone/voicing of them otherwise.

this may be a one off lolbut for those who own these (the 400 or 500) do the mids seem a bit recessed? i heard from a couple of reviews that they were and i was curious if that was the general consensus or more just being nitpicky? Since prices have gone down substantially im really considering these or maybe fidelio X2s?!?

Here's some graphs and such. Nothing is better then trying em out though. Sadly nowhere around here has em. I'm buying off blind faith. If they are not what I'm looking for I'll flip em and try something else.

The midrange is perfectly fine IMO. The highs are pretty extended and airy for closed cans. That coupled with hard hitting bass makes some people feel that the mids are recessed.

It's got a 'W' not a 'V' response curve. So by that definition 1kHz is accentuated compared to where the majority of fundamentals are, at one and two octaves below that.

So I can see how some would consider the mids recessed. With that said, a 'W' response curve seems to be my preference.
