Thank you, XVortex, I've got a big smile on my face.

and....... thank you XDuoo, for being big enough and wise enough to help this happen so soon. Suddenly, my X3 has become a serious DAP. I can even excuse the hopelessly and rapidly frosting screen
wink.gif
..... as long as I can still see enough to keep using it, it'll make a fine work horse.

Now, where can I get the tiny hex tool I need to open up this and the X2 and other recent gadgets. None of my hex tools go down to such a small size.

Xvortex,

I've just downloaded the installer and full files and plan on doing the installation this weekend.  Thank you so much for your efforts.  I too will donate once I'm up and running.

Both my 128Gb SD cards are ExFat so it looks like I need to reformat one to Fat32 and then load all my music files again which will take quite some time as the cards are near full.

You've mentioned the port is 95% with a few bugs.  I didn't see any release notes that would document any implementation quirks or bugs remaining to be resolved.  Do you plan on adding such comments to your http://xvtx.ru/rockbox/index.htm page?

tony@xDuoo,

Kudos to your company for providing the support necessary for this third party effort by Xvortex.   Very pleased that you folks listened to your product's owners'.

Anyone,

Completely new to Rockbox.  I downloaded the Sansa Clip+ manual from http://www.rockbox.org/manual.shtml.  Is this the best manual choice for a newbie on how to use Rockbox on the X3?

ADDENDUM:

With a couple of folks now reporting installation problems I may just sit back and wait for this release to fully mature.

An idiots guide to installing Rockbox under win7 would be welcome!! I've followed the instructions but flashing doesn't happen. Holding option when connecting the x3 to my PC results in x3 not sowing up in Windows and renders my x3 unresponsive. Have to reset.
Do I need to install the drivers included. How do I do this? Via device manager?

I'm affraid I just brick my X3, trying to install Rockbox on it.

All the installation was going fine, but the point 11 ("After successful installation Rockbox will start automatically")  never happens.

I waited 5 minutes, but screen still black.

So I tryed to start the x3 using the power switch, I just see a splach screen "rockbox" and a message saying something like " bad nan sectors" "i'm not sure, it stay only few seconds.

Now I cannot switch it on anymore: nothing happens.
I tryed to reset: nothing

I tryed to power on holding other buttons; nothing.
Please can somebody tell me what to do?

Well the Xduoo has no internal storage, so this is with your SD card right?
if so then you have a bad SD card, try a new one.
if you are trying to start it without any SD card... you have corrupt flash memory inside the Xduoo, return it for warranty replacement, it's a hardware issue.

It did not start without SD inside.
When I plug it to my PC, I have an error message (on my pc) : "unknown USB device"

As it is a second hand device, I'm not sure I can ask for warranty.

Be sure to read and follow the install guide.
it's there for a reason.
Do all the steps from scratch including redownloading the files.
I got my x3 running rockbox within 3 minutes literally.
Xvortex stated it's impossible to brick the device, so my advice: Run all the steps one by one without a hurry. Ofc install the usb drivers as well.

I couldn't be happier than this...already in the first release all the important stuff works. Sure there are bugs like the clock etc but what gives.
it's a dream come true this very good dap got rockbox in a matter of 2/3 weeks.

kudos both to Xvortex  (I will be donating a small amount of $ as a huge thanks) and to the manufacturer who listened to all of us and helped greatly with this.

I'll still try it for myself to see if anyone's messing up the install procedure which is a bit involved and has a few possible points of failure, requiring vitualbox installed and all. But i have done rockbox porting many years ago and don't be scared off just cause your device doesn't boot. Most likely just some settings you need to change, and then you can try flashing it again.

It should be possible to make the install procedure much simpler. I will be very surprised if we can not figure out a more reliable & eaiser way to get it installed.

Bob A - The Clip+ manual is a very good one. That's what i'd recommend learning from, at least.

If you do decide to go ahead with the rockbox installation, if I were you, I'd try to find an old microSD card for the job. Any old 2 gig or 4 gig etc card will do it fine. Once the installation is complete, you can copy the rockbox folder over to your 128gig card(s). I can't see any reason why that won't work. It will save you a LOT of hassle with re building your big libraries on the big cards.

My installation went fine, but, I'm an old luddite deliberately hanging well back behind the crest of the tech' wave. I'm using XP SP2 !   Even XP isn't happy with the USB driver/interface but I don't use a direct connection with the X3 for file transfer, I use a card reader.

Actually, I did have one scary moment while doing the installation. I followed the directions to the letter. When I installed the USB driver, nothing else happened with the installation script. So, I unplugged the X3 and reset it. Then reconnected it and rebooted the instal script. The script got working and did the whole thing in less than 2 minutes. At first I was expecting more to happen, because there is a list of 'actions' on the screen while the script runs. Eventually, I assumed it had run all it was going to, and unplugged the X3. I reset it again, then pressed the power button. It booted up perfectly, into Rockbox.

So you just accessed the microSD directly instead of plugging the X3 into the computer? If it works that way that'll save people tons of trouble...

My X3 is at home waiting for me.... i think. should be there tomorrow if not today.
