Does anyone here own (or have owned) both the FiiO X1 and this X3? I'm curious about switching to the Xduoo X3 but wondering if it's worth the price jump after what I'd get from selling a used X1.

Thanks for that Leobigfield .Sorry never thought of aliexpress. However,I had a search for xduoox3 batteries but I couldnt find any .
I have nearly used up my 32mb memory so would ideally like the X3 for its extra memory card slot rather than going back to the X2 now.
(Headfi envy I suppose .lol )
I take it the X3 batteries are internal and inaccessible.

Yes sealed in and if i remember its a sealed battery pack, I am sure someone opened one up earlier in the thread.

I think it looks more like a software than hardware issue. Might be better to wait for the new firmware to come out.

I wouldn't send it back. You'll end up with a mint bar like me (one of those candy bar things, that make rattling noises when you move it slightly - my "replacement" makes this noise - very annoying. And the screws on the back look like they're totally f'ked from the previous opening...)

Have you tried to reinstall the firmware on your X3 before sending for a replacement? That might work and save you from the hassle.

Just out of curiosity, turned on again my xDuoo tonight, without any thoughts. And to my surprise - it reads and plays the files again! The very same card which showed today no file and I did nothing in the meantime, no firmware update, no card formatting, nothing. So, kinda voodoo

Anyway good news, X3 works again normal without any intervention needed.

Yea, It's good call to let us all know and share the pics. It's very sad that you get substandard product. Really sad that a company of their stature resorts to such tricks. You should probably tell me that you shared pics and details on this forum. They might try to get their act right.

Why go out of my way to help people who don't deserve to be helped?

Was thinking about buying this DAP, would this be a worthy upgrade from from the SanDisk Clip Zip?

I listen to mainly trance, all my files are MP3's and WAV files and I'll be hooking these up with a pair of VE Monk earbuds.

What do you guys think?

First thing, there is a pitch problem, some 44.1khz songs play a tad slower, reformatting them to higher hz fixes this issue tho, just a batch thing u might have to do once to get them to play the proper speed. Some folk notice, some don't, YMMV. So just a heads up, that seems to be the biggest not fixable bug present on the DAP.

Secondly, rockbox is in the works for this thing, if that becomes a viable option then this most definitely becomes a worthy successor to the sansa clip. Where it mostly differs is bulk, power and batter life.

You'll find the zip may last longer (15hrs vs 10hrs etc). But the trade in battery life of the X3 also comes with the added bonus of more power, it should be able to drive more difficult headphones better than the Sansa Clip.
But then the Zip is a lot lighter, exercise friendlier  etc.

The X3 has dual sd card slots, so very handy, as it stands currently no EQ tho.

So yes, once rockbox is ported properly it could be a very good 'upgrade' depending upon yer point of view, as it stands currently I see it being quite indifferent to the clip.

BruceBanner thanks for swift reply, yeah I saw that RockBox is in current development right now, I used this a hell of a lot the Clip Zip and it sounded fantastic!

Maybe purchasing another Clip Zip might be a viable option instead?

It's a real shame about no EQ, but you can't have it all!

I'm not too fussed about the storage, 100gb is more than enough for me

Lack of EQ is the biggest problem for me... but I always use my DAPs on line out with a separate amp, so it's a moot point cause nothing lets you use EQ on line out (well, at least not the FiiO X1)

That and the fact that 44.1khz STILL isn't fixed blows my mind. Or else I'd have one already.

Exactly why i went for an X1 instead.

I hear you but my X1 is constantly full on storage. The dual microSD slots on this are so appealing.

I know I'd notice the pitch issue and don't feel like converting all my FLACs to non-44.1 so I might just hope they get their stuff together and update the firmware.

edit: I'm confused, is the pitch issue not fixable?  I might just be misunderstanding @BruceBanner post about it being unfixable.

You two might be interested in the AP100, I have it, it is excellent and EQ works with line out, furthermore there is a dedicated EQ toggling button, I am in audio heaven :)
$177USD on Amazon, mine came with an extremely high quality leather case which if sold separately would easily cost $30-40USD. Some report that they got a cheap silicone case, so I dunno what that's about, but if you go do yer research you should see many Fiio X1, X3 and X5 owners feel the AP100 significantly trumps it. Bargain.
I also own a second edition Alien Shozy, an Xduoo X3 owner says the Alien Shozy trumps it (sound wise), and I feel the AP100 beats the Shozy... so yeh take that under consideration. One of the reasons I haven't bought the Xduoo X3 is that I own a AP100 and Alien Shozy and they are supposedly vastly superior to the X3, but I like to keep my eye on all kinds of DAPs :)

It was my understanding this pitch error is hardware based, rockboxed won't fix it.  Someone else can chime in if i'm mistaken...

Ahhh! That's too bad if so. I've heard some people say it's hardware and some people say it's software. I'll look into the AP100 but I wasn't hoping to spend that much. Oh well.

If you read the last few pages it is mentioned that rockbox will decrease the pitch error to %0.006 which I think won't be an issue anymore. In the very beginning Clip had that pitch error too and solved with the firmware.

I have also the AP100 and think EQ is the worst I've ever seen on a DAP so I turn it off. If your budget allows AP100 is better sounding device than X3 but the difference is not so big.
