Easy fix......

Use a little carpet tape (double-side adhesive) folded over itself to increase the thickness, then cut it to fit between the bottom jacks. Cut a second piece twice as big as you want it, then fold it in half and stick it on the inside of the back of the case (so it makes contact with the back of the X3).

You may need to use some of the peel off non-stick paper from the tape to allow the X3 to slide in, then push the player down onto the tape between the jacks, then pull out the paper and press the protective case against the back of the X3. If you mess up just start again, it really is easy to do.

This will keep your player from slipping out of the case, and it can be removed whenever you like. Note, the tape will peel off some of the finish inside the case but no big deal.....if for some reason you need to remove it, you easily can.

A roll of carpet tape can be found at almost any hardware store, about $7. And you'll have lots left over for many other fixes.

When I purchased the X2 I also ordered the XQ10 amp. I'm wondering if I need it with the X3 I have on order.....?
Are there any good recommendations for small amps that pair well with the X3?
I'm using Havi's and AT50MX for listening.

If it means anything, my sound preference is what I get when I'm sitting in the studio listening to live music from great players....don't know what that equates to in hifi gear. Hope that makes sense.

X3 has a good amp, at least for me there`s no need for a separate amplifier when listening to Havi`s and even Sennheiser HD600 which are 300 ohm.

will the x3 run beyerdynamic 770 250ohm properly without adding a portable amp?

With my beyer dt880 premium 250ohm (and some other headphones) I use the Fiio E12A and am more than happy.  Some of my portable and /or easier to drive headphones are fine straight from the player.  I will check tomorrow if my beyers are ok without the amp... never thought to try.

My dt880 250ohm sounded surprisingly good straight from the player.  My player is rockboxed and I believe it  has a high gain setting on by default.  I did not have any lack of bass or detail but I did have to put the volume up quite a bit.  I do not listen very loudly so I have no idea if you would get enough volume.   With rockbox the volume is measured in db down from 0.  With the beyers I had the volume at -19.  I then put the same album on with an efficient pair of portables that also have decent bass and found that I had to bring the volume all the way down to -41 to have the same perceived level of loudness.  I  noticed that you have an E6 in your signature.  You could always try that if you are unhappy straight from the player.

In my opinion, DT880 are easy to drive cans. It's easier to get good sound directly from a player.

I only did the test in response to candy who wanted to know about driving 770 250ohm from the player. Thought they might be similar.  Although I did get good sound I had to set the volume well above what is needed to drive lower ohm portable headphones.  Do you think 770s are harder to drive than 880s even if they are both 250ohm?  Anyway I normally use my 880s on my desktop setup so this was just an experiment and I was pleasantly surprised.

I think 770s are easy to drive too. And desktop setup will scale them up.
