I immediately jumped onto Fiio's website and read the news. So it will be Fiio M3. Hmm, quite interesting. I'm also curious if it will be a good competitor for xDuoo X2

Never mind, just checked content of the archive and found change list within. 
 
So as per Xduoo,
 
1. 'All Songs' playlist has been added, so enabling ability to shuffle between all songs in memory.
2. "Please pause to play if want to play music file from folder, then go into folder and select one music to play" 
3. Added an option to select between direct unlock and long press unlock while coming back from screen turned off mode.
4. Solved an issue where player hangs while playing a song with corrupt tags.
5. Solved an issue where the player couldn't keep track of last song played between an on/off cycle, on a 64GB card.

Many good features, but the sound - hard and dry. Decreased soundstage and low bass. Treble have a metallic taste.
Tiresome sound.
I went back to V5.0(V6.0 has a lock button can not be disabled)

Yes indeed, I rolled back to V5.0 from V7.0 and the SQ is a lot better.

My wild guess is, in order to introduce new UI features they had to tone down some audio processing features? If limited program memory is a limitation then this assumption makes sense.

I have not tested "pre-V7.0".

Installed V7.0 ni my X2 today and did some extensive testing. My report would contradict with previous reports. I found no change in SQ. It hasn't improved, but hasn't worsened for sure.

Sorry to say, yes it is, they didn´t change some Errors that are still in V7.
But good to hear there isn´t a drop in SQ.
