I found this audiofools article helpful. While I had the mt-602 I tried the 6AK5 Sylvania. I thought they sounded great. It’s still hybrid amp so don’t expect huge changes
Another happy TA-26 owner here. I traded a pair of Sundaras for one and have been absolutely loving it in combination with the HD 6XX. The unit came with an aftermarket power tube, pretty sure it's a Svetlana from the 80s, the Winged C. I swapped the stock driver tube for my RCA Grey Glass 6SN7GT, 1949 vintage. Putting in the RCA was a real improvement over stock, at least to my ears. I also tried a new production Tung Sol 6SN7GTB, but went back to the RCA.
I think if you own some 300 ohm cans you love and don't have an OTL amp, you might want to give the TA-26 a try.
I mean, it doesn’t magically make my headphones sound 2,000 dollars better, but I’m still satisfied.
I don’t have any headphones that expensive yet, but it does justice to the few I have (XS, t60 argon, e-mu teak). It plays to the strengths of the Teak and Argon’s somewhat better than the XS, but the XS still sound good. The Ta-22 is a hybrid, and while tube rolling will change the sound, I haven’t found it to be significant. It’s not as punchy and the low end doesn’t have the slam that my jot2 has. There’s still plenty of low end. It makes up for it with a larger stage, and better, more forward midrange. I will say I probably prefer the sound of the ta-22 over the previous singxer sa-1 I had. It feels more powerful than the sa-1, which surprised me. I think the ta-22 holds its own with amps and other combo units under $500 or 600.
yea im using with focal clear. changed tubes and im happy with it. although the bass punch is not as tight as a solid state amp, but it makes up with other improvements such as sound stage. I feel i hear more background instruments easier ever since i changed tubes. I feel the default tubes have more bass and slam, and closer sound stage.
No issues with either one and each have performed very well. I just need to downsize some gear and clean up my desk space.
PM me with any questions, thanks.
Has anyone tried the TA-26/26S with any dynamic headphones around 32-50 ish ohms? Would like to get one for the fairly easy to drive Kennerton Magni (33 ohms).
Would like to get a reasonably priced OTL but know they're for high impedance on the whole.
Pretty sure my 50 ohm T60rp Argons are out the question!

TA-26 works very well with 300 ohm (nominal impedance) headphones such as Senn HD600. With Kennerton Magni, unlikely. [Try Schiit Valhalla 2: output impedance is 5.7 ohms / 19.0 ohms in low / high gain. It has been great for me with Kennerton GH50 JM Edition.]
