Hi I'm currently considering getting a used pair of XB700s for around 45 USD, thinking of trying out the bass that a lot of people on this forum have been talking about. I've read a few posts across different threads and have a few questions, namely:

1. For purely non-competitive (single player ) gaming/movies, would the XB700s hold its own against the DT990 Premium 250ohms, or better it in any way in terms of immersion? ( I know it's not a fair comparison due to the price differences but I'm thinking of selling my DT990s if the XB700s perform )

2. For bass heavy music, such as hip hop ( Taio Cruz etc ) and hard rock ( Disturbed, Skillet etc ), as well as certain types of electronica ( Blue Stahli ), would the XB700s perform well? ( as compared to the DT990s - I did not really mind the treble of the DT990s though I agree that they were a bit sharp such that listening to them for long periods of time at higher volumes would be fatiguing to the ears, basswise I wouldn't mind having more bass haha )

3. Also about the synergy with my current Dac and Amp ( DacMagic and Darkvoice 337 )

Note: I loved the DT990s at the start but felt that they were going to waste as I didn't mind listening to my HD600s for all sorts of music, so the only time I switched to the beyers were when I was gaming or watching movies, but I felt that keeping the DT990s as a gaming/movie headphone was quite a waste. So...the ultimate point is that I hope to be able to  (downgrade?) from my Dt990s to a pair of XB700s without losing out much.

Thanks in advance for all replies :)

The XB700 is terrible for gaming. Why? The bass is so bloated it covers up a LOT of everything else going on.

For example:

Playing Mass Effect 2, there are times when you are on your ship and having conversations. With the XB700, the low hums of the ship's machinery is SO prominent, you can't hear what the people are saying. Not a problem I experienced with the DT990s.

A better headphone with bass like the XB700 that isn't as ridiculous is the DT770 Pro 80. Those are the best when it comes to HT-like sound other than my D7000 that I have tried. I'm willing to be the D2000 would be even better than the XB700 and DT770 Pro 80 for your needs.

If its not competitive, XB700 would provide lots of fun. Explosions will literally kill you:)

Lots of bass =/= lots of fun. I love a bassy can like lots of people, but the bass literally drowns out everything else. It's too much for gaming.

Hmmm wow the bass is really that overwhelming? ( such that it drowns out conversations in game ) Anyway anyone else have other opinions on the XB700 hopefully I'm able to get more replies before I decide haha.

There is no comparison between the DT-990 and any of my current/former stock for gaming.  The sound stage + Virtual 3D sound + impressive bass make it informative and provides tons of immersion.

I've tried AD700s and though they had great clarity I didn't feel that they were extremely immersive due to the lack of bass... hmm Coupe have you tried a pair of XB700s? Cause I'm trying to decide if I can let my Dt990s go and use the XB700s as a replacement can, but seems more and more unlikely by the moment, judging from all the negative comments about the XB700s :frowning2:

The Creative Aurvana Live has a lot of bass and is a much better gaming can than the XB700.

Sorry, I have never tried XB700s, but FWIH they sound similar to Dr Dre's.  Lots of bass and Lots of bass.  I will say that, out of all the cans I have/had, the DT-990 is most consistently my favorite.
