Al ritey !! Got my 6H23N tubes from Mike. Great Guy with fast respond on my queries and i got my package within 1 half week. Thumbs up for great work entics!
And i officially performed my 1st Tube roll
Can call my self a tube roller now
I would say its very inetresting
the tube has just been inserted into the V8 with only a few hours of usage. Not sure if its because the tube are new.. sound level ( vol) is lower than stock, decay of notes is also considerably lesser.. IMO
But the over all details have improved, with more tighter bass control and lusher MIds. Hope to see more improvement in the days to come.
But i kinda like the sound sig of this TUBE than stock.
Hi All!, this is my first post in this thread and I'm also a proud and happy owner of a Musical Fidelity X-Can V8
.
At the store where I bought my X-Can they lent me their Demo unit in the mean time my one arrived. So I was listening with my Denon AH-D2000 for about a week to an all ready burnt in amp and I was extremely pleased with that smooth sound, I just love it!. Now that I got mine I've noticed that the sound is completely different. It definitely needs some burn in time. So here are the questions:
How long should I burn in before I notice some improvement?
For how long should I play music to achieve the burn in? I mean, can I play music from my Ipod on repeat for 24 hours or more without "stress" or overhit the amp? Is that OK? or I it will damage the unit? do you recommend some pause time in between?...
Also with time, (because I just got it and I want to enjoy the "stock version") I'm planing to buy the little pinkie psu and make some tube roll...

Congratulations! The X-Can v8 is an execellent amp. About 100 hours of burn-in will do. You won't stress it by playing continuously, but a pause every couple of hours will be better I heard (more so for the headphones you use to burn it in).

Thanks Kees!...
mmm...I was planing to burn in it by playing music continuously
during the whole night and on the next day...so you don't recommend that?
Thanks Darlim, I owned this amp for a while now and upgraded the PSU with Little Pinkie and some Russian tubes, just wanted to express my ever growing enthousiasm for this great amp
THe improvement from upgrading the stock tube is quite noticeable. Followed the advice of fellow Xcan owner and bought the 6H23N from Mike. It really has the balance many have talked about. Best is, it maintains the "sound " of the Xcan which i like but improving on the mids, control and bass. NICE!
It is very good to hear that Darlim!!... What I really like about the X-can is that I can listen for hours without ringing. Changing the tubes for the russian ones that you suggest would not affect that? making the sound more fatiguing? Hope not!
At this point of time do you like what you heard from the Stock tube? the Russian tube sounds leaner but have more Dynamic punch in Bass and improves on the details. Sounstage opens more than stock. The Russian tube is Overall more detailed and controlled.
I find the Stock Tube ( Chinese Golden Dragon) has fatter bass and warmer than the Russian. It actually provided lusher mids than the Russian but a messier bass.
As to fatigue, no it wont
I listen to music for hours usually. It sounds more musical than before

Copy cat!
I'm in the exact same spot now. Only have a few hours on the rig, and to think it will not only get better with some age, but would further improve with new tubes is amazing (it sounds great as is!)
I have no idea what just happened. The little gremlin inside of my amp just flipped the switch from 'really good' to 'oh my god!'. After about 100 hours, this amp has just transformed itself (and its not in my head...I think).
Bass is deeper, tighter, and more defined, and the mids and highs have mellowed out and become more neutral. The interesting thing is bad recordings sound pretty good (takes the edge off), good recordings sound great (get the most out of them), and great recordings are allowed to shine through in their full glory. Doesn't matter if its a YouTube video, or a 24/96 recording - it all sounds better than before - it is the best of both worlds (mellows out the harsh, protects the fragile & pristine).
I now fully-appreciate why this amp is $500.
The kicker is I am not even pushing it with a really good source, I'll be hooking up a Primare CD player in the next few days to see what this thing can REALLY do. And to think I can get it even better with new tubes/upgraded power supply.
