Grados are fantastic rock/acoustic headphones not so great with movies, and they are not comfortable for long sessions.

thanks for ruling out Grado for me. I'd like to hear your opinion on Ultrasone?

AKG headphones are not comfortable.

Denon is very comfortable, my friend owned an akg k550, he sold it after one week because he couldn't wear it for more than one hour.

I have owned the Pro 2900 and the 900 and sold both, the sound was not for me.  I am not a fan of the Ultrasone signature at all, they sound almost mechanical to me. I can't speak for the higher end  (Edition 8,Signature PRO ) cans, just from what i heard and could not get rid of fast enough.  Sound is subjective though, many folks on here swear by them. When I watch a movie I reach for my D-5000s or my HD-600s depending on my mood.

I say go with the D2000/D5000.  They are very comfortable, don't really need an amp, and sound great.
