Why is McDonald's Coke so good!?

Indeed, foolishly on my part, this was the case. After an early afternoon of exhausting research, I am now team big straw. Some may discount large straws as liquid carrier snake oil. I, on the other hand, am starting to believe that bigger straws equal more current which equals more taste sensation.

That's because it is gray market imported from Mexico or Canada, where they don't have protectionist tariffs (instigated by the lobbies of Texas sugarcane growers and Midwest corn processors like Archer Daniels Midland), and thus they can afford to use real sugar in their soda instead of corn syrup. The US price of sugar is about twice the world market price.

Interesting link majid. Btw, I used to hear that Coke imported from Mexico used brown sugar? Not sure, but I might head to the mission one day and find out.

Very informative thread btw. I also agree, McDonald's Coke is really addictive. Had no idea that they mixed their own fountain formulas for it...interesting!

That is the single best thing I have read all day... I think other countries outside of the US still sell their cokes inside of glass bottles. A lot of the Asian countries do I believe. Also the comment about the cane sugar vs. corn syrup applies too, I think coke tastes better from other countries then it does presently here in the US.

Catch you later,

It has NOTHING to do with the width of the straw, it has EVERYTHING to do with the thickness of the plastic from which the straw was made. If it can't withstand the suction pressure, it doesn't matter how wide it is, the soda simply will not taste the same.......(omg, did I just say that?)

Back on topic.....I speculate the difference is that McDonald's takes more care to make sure that the soda mixture is accurate and has a consistent flavor, and also that they sell so much soda that they never have a stale or old batch make it to the customer. It also wouldn't surprise me that McDonald's has its own unique syrup blend developed in cooperation with Coke to taste the best with their menu. Coke of course changes its mix for every market to suit the taste of the region. Diet Coke in Europe was just awful, had to switch to coffee for the duration of my trip there for my caffeine fix.......

I don't know, I just can't stomach McD's anymore. Maybe a breakfast once a year when travelling, but that's about it.

For some reason, a friend of mine is just addicted to McD's Soft Serve Ice cream. No toppings whatsoever, just plain. It's so weird, it's like it's frozen cocaine or something.

Outback steakhouse has the best coke around although McD's coke is awesome as well. Pepsi from Subway always tastes better to me than other 'pepsi' places.

I think compared to normal coke McDonalds coke has a higher water percentage and it's less carbonated. The fact that it's always ice-cold is another plus.

Have you tried bi-strawing? I find that using two medium straws instead of one big one results in better suction response times and flow control.

Ugh...

I hate McDonalds. Worst fast food imagineable. Its greasy, not well made and McDonalds is one hell of an evil corporation.

Wendys is far superior (sure, there a coproration too, but they are not nearly as bad)

McDonalds food is fine. I do think Wendy's is considerably better, but it's not as if eating at McDonalds will result in food poisoning or anything. I have eaten many meals which were inferior to McDonalds food.

I beg to differ!

Okay, it may only have happened once, but I am never again eating anything from McDonalds that hasn't been deep-fried in some way. Fortunately, that's not difficult.
