forget the senns hd 205, and the 438, the 205 may be good but to simple to compare to the other ones, and the 438 has detachable cord which in my opinion reduces sound quality. I say so because I tried the beats solo and the sound was horrible

so please help me decide between the other ones I posted or if you have a better reccomendation in the same price range, not higher than $75

Thanks in advance!

Try the AKG K518LE!

Awesome headphones, great bass, awesome portability, very good isolation and no leakage. Obviously not the best SQ in the world, but certainly (my opinion) the best for it's price.

I think you can try JVC RX700

I've auditioned the HD-428 and the xb-500. I liked the hd-428 alot more as they were much more versatile. The xb's are a bit more comfortable but I felt the 428's to be built a bit better.

To compare the sound you will find the 428's to be much more neutral compared to the xb's. The xb's are all about bass. The mids are a bit sucked out and the highs are a bit harsh. In comparison the 428's lack the impact but go just as low in the bass department. Also the mids and highs are pleasant. Lastly I found that the 428's eq really well. I think most noobies will find the xb-500's more impressive (due to the gobs of bass) but will ultimately be happier with the hd-428's due to their versatility.

Good luck.

The XB700 are very nice, awesome bass and sooooooooooo comfortable. If you're going to use them mostly at home then I'd defintely recommend them, but for portability I still stand with the K518LE.

I think XB700 and XB500 is good for bassheads and improve with EQing quite a bit, XB700 can use a little boost in the 250~2kHz range especially and XB500 could use a reduction in the upper bass (~250Hz) and boost in the mids and highs to sound more clear. XB700 is more clear unEQ'd than XB500, however I think XB500 has more EQ potential, I actually prefer XB500 after fixing the balance a bit with EQ. If EQ isn't a possibility, XB700 might be a safer bet but it won't have the midbass punch of XB500. At least I can tell unEQ'd XB500 WON'T be a good fit for jazz while it can be very good for all genres with EQing but remember low quality EQs might just ruin the sound more than it helps.

do you really think they are worth better than the xb700? how about the HARX900?

By the way im leaning towards the xb700, but I dont understand why people say that the xb500 have more bas if they have 40mm drivers and the xb700 have 50mm drivers

Also can someone recommend a good pair of 7.1 surround headphones that are not specifically for gaming like the razer ones. I mean that they are more intended for listening music

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR RESPONSES UNTIL NOW!

In terms of 7.1 surround sound headphones, I know of none.  In terms of 7.1 surround sound headsets, I know of many and own quite a few of them.  I can say with confidence that you would *probably* be highly dissapointed in them compared to what you could get in normal headphones.

I've tried turtle beaches (X31/41), astro a40's (not a30's, but I heard they're better for music) and a few others that I would rather not mention since I cannot recommend them for any purpose (they were that bad).

The 41's are decent for music, but really they're overpriced for what your getting.  The astro's are hollow and not for music in any way (although some actually seem to like them, they got great bass but thats about it).

When companies advertise "7.1 surround sound headset/headphones" more often than not, theres nothing different about the headphones/headset compared to normal ones.  Theres still 2 drivers, one in each ear.  They reproduce sound almost the same as any normal headphone does (more or less).  What's different is they usually come with their own device that has dolby headphone which does "simulate" surround sound.

IMHO and I highly suggest this, don't go for them.  Go for headphones with a big sound stage, I can highly recommend a pair of HD 595's or 598's for this.  Not sure if you would like the bass though.

Hope that helps a bit... sorry about my list of 7.1 surround sound gear, I know they're gaming oriented, but then again most "headsets in 7.1" are.

Forgot to mention that if you want to make any existing headphones you got into "virtual 7.1", the astro mix-amp is pretty good for that (has dolby headphone).  There are probably cheaper options to look for though... Astro charges a killing for their shipping and the products...
