I beg to differ.
I feel my DT990's soundstage is noticeably wider than my K702's- noticeably for all musical genres. With the DT990, I can imagine myself floating mid-atmosphere with music coning from all directions, or standing in an open-air arena while the band plays at a moderate distance. With the K702, I can ALWAYS sense "the room" which is pretty much the headphone cups .....even when playing purely artificial elecronic music.
Perhaps the DT990's bass presence gives people the impression that "the music is closer"? The first time I AB'ed a store K701 and my DT990, I also made this mistake. I was so wowed by the "perfect" presentation and clarity of the K701 that I overlooked the soundstage: at the time, I thought their soundstage sizes were more or less the same, just with wee differences. After weeks of owning and listening, I realized I was mistaken.
Don't get me wrong, I still own and love both of them, but soundstage-size-wise, I'm giving it to the DT990.
