Where does the Headamp GS-1 Stand now?

Still in love with my newly upgraded GS-1 Dynalo+.  It is simply amazing!

However I have a quick question, I usually leave GS-1 on all the time.  However, after the upgrade, my GS-1 is noticeably hotter than before.

Is this normal?  Should I start turning my GS-1 off when not listening to it?

Thanks.

Yes, this is normal. The new Dynalo+ modules bias it further into Class A (thus the heat). I would turn it off though in between listening sessions.

That heat concerns me a bit too as I usually have all my equipment on 24/7.
So is turning it off between session the recommendation? Is that what Justin suggests?

Why not just turn it off? Conserving power is economically and socially beneficial, whereas there's no benefit to leaving it on...

First, to save on warm up time, it takes at least one hour before it starts sounding right.
Second, I am more concerned with longevity of components than power consumption, and it's not cut and clear to me whether heated but stable state is better than repeated cooling/warming cycles.

i tested it and did not find the temperature of the internal components when the new modules are in the GS-1 to be a problem. However, if you are concerned, i have a recommendation. You can send the top panel to front panel express and they can add vent holes to it. Note that if you have a black panel, the color of the inside of the holes will be raw aluminum so this will be somewhat visible. I will post up a front panel express file that can be used for anyone that wants to do this. I would estimate that it will cost about $30-40 inclusive of shipping.

Seriously.  There are no commercial options for single ended dynalos anymore - which is a bit bizarre given the incredible popularity of this amp.  10 days ago, I was sad to see acoustic fun announce that it has just discontinued the HA-006+.  (See: http://www.head-fi.org/t/470353/review-for-sheer-audio-ha-006-dynalo/135#post_9872371 )

Justin - any chance you're might roll out a gs1 mkII at some point down the road based on the new susy boards?

Burson Soloist is considered close by some, I personally found it still too bright and aggressive comparing to updated GS-1, just got AURALiC Taurus MK-II, different design completely, but voicing is surprisingly close, pricing is not as friendly as Burson or Headamp though.

Thanks for cluing me in on the soloist. I hadn't realized it was a dynalo derivative! No wonder folks seem to like it so much better with hd800s etc. than the last generation of Bursons. I'll have to keep an eye out for a chance to hear one, even if it can't quite match a gs1.

Apologize for the bump, but I've been rediscovering my GS-1 with the Dynalo+ modules using it at work with my JH13s and this amp is really unbelievable.  The JH13 takes a backseat to no full size headphone, but does normally get fatiguing after a couple of hours on most source/amp combos I typically use them with, but with the GS-1 there is no fatigue for 6+ hours and it retains and accentuates everything that make the JH13s so special, the imaging, the air, the vocals.  I could get rid of all my full sizes headphones and live with this combo exclusively.  The JH13s have never sounded better!

This amp will stand the test of time (it already has).  It's a classic!  I think Justin should bring it back!
