I'm looking into buying one of these headphones for listening to trance music/progressive trance, etc.  The D5000's are significantly more expensive.  Is there a real difference between the sound quality of these two headphones, or is the price difference due to the quality of materials used in construction?  I am also looking into getting Beyer DT 770 Pros (280 ohm), and I'm leaning towards those.  Any suggestions?

had both. the d5000 is only slightly better, the difference is the d5000 has wood cups, the d2000 metal cups. the 5000 has a slightly mellower, deeper sound.  really nowhere near worth the price difference

The Beyers will need an amp. What you got?

D5000's have wood cups, D2000's have plastic cups. Originally the D5000 came with a better cable while the D2000 had an inferior cable but there's been reports that D2000's are coming with D5000 cables now.

difference is the wooden cups and a better cable. D5000 is little more bassy, but the difference was so small I chose D2000. I'm surprised there are people who actually believe D5000 is worth twice the price of D2000.

pretty sure this rumor was started by one headfi member with no specific proof. D2000 cable is already better (fancier at least) than standard stock cable. there's no reason for denon to do this.

do you mean that the D5000 has better cable...?   did you notice significantly less bass in the D2000 comparing to the D5000?  it should be a good thing imo.

EDIT: ah..just now i got your camment about the D2000 cable, so ignore my first question

significantly no. D5000 was just a bit more bassy and the extension was more noticeable. lol come to think of it D5000 was my dream headphone, I loved everything about their bass (although lot of folks here find it boomy). but the sound signature between D2000 and D5000 is about the same.
