What's the case for and against neutral sounding phones? (maybe its more than that...)

I love neutral for classical and acoustic; natural music if you will.
 
However when I'm in the room and I wanna listen to some rap/rnb/rock/electronic/pop etc, adding some color to the phones (bass and treble or mid emphasis) gives me some excitement and/or helps me connect to the music easier.
