Currently my DAC, the Pro-Ject USB Box DAC, is pretty much nothing but garbage. It has several issues, which I won't get into here.
However, I had my roommate setup a blind A/B test between the external DAC and my X-Fi Fatalty soundcard, and believe it or not I picked the soundcard as sounding better. Mainly, I believe, because my soundcard is much warmer compared to the Pro-Ject USB Box DAC.
Now, the question is:
-Upgrade source first to the Music Fidelity V-DAC?
-Or, get new headphones?
If I do, I'm debating between the HD650s, which I can get for $300, or the DT770 Pro/80s for $200.
I know they are totally different headphones, but I once owned the DT770s, and they're just so fun. Now with my Matrix M-Stage amp I can only imagine how "fun" they would sound, especially on Infected Mushroom....
I'm used to ATH-AD700s and Alessandro MS-1s. It seems if I want the sound the most different from those 2 the Beyer's would be the way to go.
This is somewhat of a random thread, but, if it were your money, what would you do if you were me next?
