What's in a McDonald's hamburger?

I haven't had a McD's hamburger in 3 years. Best decision I ever made.

...

As far as these viral stories, I work as a newspaper editor, and this is why newspapers exist. This thread has 8 people shaking this heads with disgust immediately. At newspapers we do things called "FACT CHECKING" I recommended Net readers do the same.

The source is The New York Times, which is a reputable news outlet last I checked.

Just because it's from a reputable source doesn't mean it's always true

Did you read the entire article?

McDonald’s, whose hamburgers have contained Beef Products meat since 2004, declined to say if it monitored it for pH. But Danya Proud, a chain spokeswoman, said, “We expect the pH level to meet the specifications that are approved by the U.S.D.A.”

Why would they be concerned about the pH of their meat if they weren't using ammonia treated beef?

I haven't had any of those burgers years. I guess I'm glad I didn't.

includes BK and probably the others, as well.

in fact, the outrage is that its in school food and in supermarket food, as well! basically the beef industry is deciding to allow this and it seems much larger than ONE restaurant.

if this was only a mcD issue, that would be much better but its industry wide, from what it seems ;(

and hiding this via deviant means is also not cool.

I'm never in favor of the food industry keeping secrets. we deserve to know what's going on with our food supply!

Why do companies try as much as possible to hide things like this from the public? Why are they so afraid of public transparency?

They are an easy target, but McDonalds and the rest deserve a few lumps for the obscene calorie content of their meals. A burger/sandwich, large fries and 32-48oz. Coke can be as much as 75%-100% of your daily caloric intake. Every 3,500 extra calories you eat puts on a pound. It's no wonder that the country has ballooned.

The good news is that the calorie formula also works in reverse. Short yourself 3,500 calories and a pound comes off. I've taken off around 100 lbs. over the past 18 months. I owe a lot of that to cutting out fast food and soda.

If you're on the road, always eat at the local non-chain restaurants. Yes, they are generally safe and clean. Ask yourself if you want a 23 year old making $8.90 per hour keeping an eye on things or someone who actually owns the business on premises. Look for a lot of cars in the parking lot or pop in at the police station and ask where to eat. The police always know and they give the best directions.

Local restaurants are usually happy to comply with special requests like just getting a plate of vegtables or leaving high-cal stuff out of your salad.

Did anyone seriously think the 'meat' in a McDonald's burger was high quality? I mean. . .. duh! It doesn't feel like meat, it doesn't have any meat like texture. . . it's clearly processed crap.
