HD595

I got these 3 or so years back and I thought they sounded great! One week later I bought the HD600.

UE TripleFi 10's. Thats what i use now haha. Just got a Westone cable today and Sony Hybrid Earbuds. They sound beautiful. The isolation is better and the sound seems better. Maybe because im listening out of a Mac instead of a iPod Touch. It sounds so good

My first real high quality headphones were the Koss Pro-4AA.  I've gone through two pair over the years, and have a third pair that I use from time to time.  They are excellent, but usually after about an hour or so I have to take them off because they just get too uncomfortable!  Sometimes the sound can be worth the pain, though.

Then I took a few years off from high end audio and came back favouring on/over ear headphones. first quality pair was the Audio Technica  ESW9A

X2 on the 4AA, actually can't believe it took until page 4 for this one to be mentioned! Mine was from the mid '70's, didn't purchase another pair until the HD540rII in the early '90s. First post-walkman/discman portables were a decade later, PX100 and then the ER-6i that I still have. Actually it was the other way around, the ER-6i was 1st.

Ultrasone HFI-550, I was debating between these and Senn HD280 at the time but I went ahead and never looked back :) (was really happy with my decision especially when I got to try the HD280 later).

The Pro4AA are nice, at least the vintage models are. The old models were smooth and tube like in their signature, but the modern ones are just bad (harsh sounding). They sound nothing like the old models.

^ nice! almost scored a pair off ebay last year. how do they sound?

Can't remember - I haven't listened to them for about 40 years.

I replaced them with the original Sennheiser HD 420 and then progressed from there.
