I'm looking for another pair of headphones that compliment the LCD3s. What do you suggest?
Or get a complete polar opposite, like the Grado RS1i and truly surprise your ears. I find that LCD2/3 lovers often become very surprised listening to Grados as the change is so immense.
EDIT: 1337 posts. I'm not going to post for a while to appreciate this number.
Ahh there goes my 1337 posts. Iunno, just a suggestion. I find that sometimes radical changes are needed to change one's perspective in things. I'm not a HUGE fan of LCD2/3 as I'm quite the treble head, but often I enjoy listening to it to give my ears a refreshment and to clear my mind. Does that mean I will buy the LCD2? Maybe, maybe not. I've thought about it a lot, but I think Hifiman orthos are better matches for me. Or try something in between. HD800 or a Beyerdynamic T1 might be good choices, but they might sound boring compared to the LCD3. I did notice one thing with the LCD2/3 however and that thing is they are very very fun cans. Bass and vocals are soo satisfying
I certainly don't have the proper info to give to the OP here as I only experienced these cans, not own them. I'm still deciding which can to get now... Torn between the HE-500 and HE-5LE... Can't make my mind up still.
Have you auditioned both of 'em?
HE-5LE once. HE-500 numerous, numerous times. That's what makes things difficult for me, can't directly compare the two. I feel that the HE-500 is a significant improvement over the HE-400 in terms of treble and mids, but feel it has lacking bass compared to the HE-400. But that's not really an issue for me.
EDIT: sorry for the threadjack OP, but you're not responding so might as well use this as a discussion thread![]()
That seems to be a consensus about bass with HE-400. I compared the HE-5LE and HE-500, The HE-500 just had some sweet mids and nice non fatiguing, but detailed highs.
They were the clear winner for me, but then again, I ended up choosing the LCD-2 over 'em. I'd think based on what you said earlier that the HE-500 would be more to your liking,
but the HE-5LE had a politeness to it, similar to the LCD's when dealing with bad recordings.
Are you not willing to consider the HE-6? Even with silly amp requirements, they're a beautiful headphone.
I would, but I'm not sure if my wallet can handle the beating included with the HE-6. I actually remember the HE-5LE having the same politeness you just brought up. I just don't know if the HE-500s are worth the difference of the HE-400. Also, I'm a believer of cables and maybe, quite literally maybe, getting a OCC copper cable for the HE-400 might make me like it enough to reconsider upgrading to the HE-500. But, that is another risk itself.
I can definitely understand that. That's an interesting point, I can't seem to recall if some of the HE-400 members who have auditioned the HE-500 thought it was worth it.
I know one member definitely got sucked in by the LCD's mids, but that's just one I can recall. And of course, we all have differing preferences, but c'mon,
ya gotta take the risk eventually. Get it over with!![]()
I'll get the cable for the HE-400 first, then upgrade to the HE-500. Double benefit there haha.
