Just been checking this out and like some of it, kind of like early Pink Floyd with more guitars and a bit of John Cage/Sonic Youth mixed in. 93 ave. B Blues, The Apostate, The Seer, are the stand out tracks for me. The walls of noise they create are fantastic in parts, but If only they could be a bit more inventive with the time sigs that follow the inventive concrete music then they'd be quite an original band. Having said that, If was still a stoned teenager I'd probably love it haha
It's more like a new Ben Folds solo album, which I wasn't much of a fan of him on his own without the Five. My friend pointed out that he does his talk-sing thing too much, and yep. It's like they all got growed up... lost the funny quirky rocking out thing they did... A looong time ago, in the 90s... sigh.
