Clifford Brown and Max Roach - Study in Brown
IMO Brown was the greatest trumpeter in all of jazz.
Charlie Parker - A Studio Chronicle 1940 - 1948
Disc 1. Simply breathtaking! This 5 CD boxed set from JSP has been my on wish list for
a few years but for one reason or another I never got around to buying it. Then it
went out of print. I was upset with myself for not making this a priority. It took me a
while but I was finally able to locate a set for a price I was willing to pay. The
sound quality is truly remarkable given the time period. A few tracks were made from
worn 78s, but the vast majority of this music really sounds great. If you're
a Charlie Parker fan and don't have this set then you owe it to yourself to get it,
even if it means paying two to three times its original retail price. It absolutely
is worth it!
Gene Ammons and Sonny Stitt - Boss Tenors in Orbit
Horace Silver - Blowin' the Blues Away
Duke Ellington - Jazz Party in Stereo
Fats Waller - If You Got to Ask, You Ain't Got It!
Disc 1. Nice 3 CD compilation produced by Orrin Keepnews.
