Hiroyuki Sawano - cóunter・attàck-mˈænkάɪnd

The time for retaliation is now. Ready your weapons, for we are setting forth soon! Hiroyuki Sawano's cóunter・attàck-mˈænkάɪnd is featured in the hit animation Attack on Titan. Specifically, showing each character preparing themselves for an event that could change the tides. Surprisingly, I haven't mentioned this artist before. Some of the best tracks from my favorite films were created by Sawano. Could it be a coincidence that I have noticed that some younger Head-Fi'ers and reviewers—including Precogvision and RikuodouGoku—mention his music in their test tracks? What makes people want to listen to his music? I believe it is because of the strong melodies, various sounds and techniques, and the use of dynamics, especially in the bass—all of these are not too dissimilar to modern pop music. (1) Looking at the tracks, a number of them are variations on one original track. This is common in soundtracks. Sawano uses the melodies he has created and puts a spin on the theme to represent a different scenario. For example, the melody used at 1:54 can be recognized by nearly everyone if they have seen the animation. (2) One notable thing in any Sawano album is the question relating to instrument or technical usage: What is going on? Is that a cowbell or something else entirely? In reality, they aren't supposed to move that quickly! One listener stated, "It's like they said' Just go nuts' to the craziest Japanese composer, and this is the fever dream he came up with". Though not specifically talking about this piece, it relates to the composer himself. I feel like it's hilarious and not false to name him a "crazy Japanese composer". The way he titles his music could also reflect this. (3) He is not shy about holding off on the entire bass range. Google labels his music "pop". The bass is present and something to look forward to on every track.
