Using the Try before you buy adage and streaming some stuff that I think I'm going to pick up. For an old rock/metal guy I have really made an effort to look into new music-electronic and indie. Here's what I'm listening to today.
Thumbs up from me.
Of all the alternative/indie rock that's the toast of the town (Vampire Weekend, Arcade Fire, Arctic Monkeys), this release from Deerhunter nails it for me. My analysis is currently there is a crop of bands (Vampire Weekend) that go out of their way to avoid guitar based rock which is fine. But, I Iike a rock band that isn't afraid of the word rock-love the varied sounds here-great garage vibe.
This release-Jon Hopkins (Immunity) is quite a good combination of EDM/techno even and the more minimalist soundscape stuff I prefer. It took me few listens. It's pretty good
I'm waiting on an electronic release I just ordered "Darkside" : which I'm pretty enthused about. Pink Floyd meets IDM.
