the task of re-ripping my CD collection (320kbps and lossless) is ongoing.
i own about 6,000 CDs. and when i ripped CDs the "first time around", i used the 160kbps setting.
how foolish i was!!
well, a chunk at a time, i 've been making progress through my collection.
it was a hot weekend, and i tried to avoid the outdoors.
So i got about 300 discs ripped this weekend.
that got me up to about a third of my collection in high quality.
here's what i've been enjoying today of those rips:
beachwood sparks
sunny day real estate
sugartooth
eyesinweasil
far
hum
veruca salt
elastica
slint
jets to brazil
karate
at the drive in
just lots of good rock from the late 90's and early 2000's that was further down my list of albums to rip.
funny, i started my re-ripping project with the obvious selections. Cowboy junkies, Steely Dan, Pink Floyd -- the stuff that deserves to be heard in higher bit rate.
but, that has only kept me content for so long. i just had to move beyond that stuff.
it's funny. the albums i truly cherish are not all that well recorded.
in fact, some are quite lo-fi: sebadoh, guided by voices, neutral milk hotel, etc.
i am a child of a certain era.

using itunes to rip as apple lossless.
and, then use Jriver media center for playback.
and, squeezebox touch, as well.
works pretty well.
but, with one disc drive, on one PC, it's slow going.
the drive can rip a cd in about two minutes. but, the other parts of the process are more time consuming.
for example, i do not accept most entries from the CD database. horrible typos, stupid categorizations that are meaningless. no songwriter information (usually).
so, i input that data mostly myself.
i figure: do it once (more), and do it right this time.
but, because of the time i put in this weekend, i've been ROCKING OUT all day today!!!
reliving my college years. ha
