What are the most emotionally involving/stirring headphones you've ever listened to?

I'd have to give it to all of those as well. Why no HE60 (I haven't heard it yet)?

To me the HE60 needs more body to really bring it into the emotionally involving/stirring area. I did only hear it with the HEV70 though, a better amp may make all the difference in this regard. Part of me feels guilty saying such things about the HE60 though, I really enjoyed them and I'd still by a pair in a heartbeat given half a chance.

For me, it is listening to "Box of Rain" by The Grateful Dead on either my DT880 or K601. Preferably via CD and through my Micro Dac and amplified by either the Hornet or Micro Amp.

I must admit I haven't heard any of the "big dogs"... don't really want to, as I'm afraid my wallet will disown me

As for the ones I know, the ATH-AD2000 is a clear winner in my book. The synergy with Apogee's Mini-DAC is incredible, to the point where I'm seriously considering selling the rest of my headphones.

highly depends on genre! HD650 for Mozart and Heifetz. SR325i for pop and Amon Tobin. With the results so far, I know I need to listen to the HE90! Stats I've heard so far haven't really done much for me.

I am going to say something wild here.

Back in 2001 when I got my first pair of SR-80s (and the HD495) and a Total AirHead this open a new world to me.

Since this got me into this habit, I think I have to say that these have to take the credit for stirring me further into this hobby.

So take that as a contraian view to all those very high end emotional involving phones cause I would never have gotten this far if it had not been for those early phones moving me so.

W5000. HD650 comes close though.

R10 pretty much sums it up for me. HE90 is making a run for it, but is still in second place.

The only Big Boys I've heard were the K1000's and the GS1000's...yawn! This will probably not be believed by many here but the new model DT770's driven by tubes is a flat out sonic delight. This combo gets closer to neutral and balanced than anything else I've heard. It just sounds right to me. A treat every time I listen to them and not expensive at all.
