I would say the sibilance he hesres is in his gear, not ES3X; this is the first result like this I have heard. all other reports of ES3X and now UM3X mak a point of mentioning that they are decidedly non-sibilant.

I guessed as much.
Ill tell him he needs a better source then! :d
How easy are these to put in/out? Also, I'd be using these mostly in the office, where I'm popping one out to answer phones, make calls, etcetera, at least a couple times each hour. For this type of use, would you recommend these?

Usually (and I say that knowing everyone's ear is different) a custom is easier to do this. No messing with tips. Just pop it in and out.
Has anyone compared the UM3X to the ESX3? Differences? great small? I know they use the same drivers but as we know, that doesn't always mean much and I would really like to get a pair of top performing IEM's since I have been happy with what I have used. The cost of the ESX3, while I am sure totally worth it, is a little bit of a deterrent so how do the UM3X stack up?

No, I wouldn't. You will most likely not hear the phone ringing and putting in/ out takes a few (precious) seconds in this particular environment you describe.

I can insert and remove my ES3X much quicker than I can insert my other IEMs then fiddle around until I get a proper seal.
I also get better isolation with my ES3X than with any IEMs I have previously owned except the Etymotic 4S and P.
Much is dependent on the skill of your Audiologist when making the impressions.
