Both of them have fantastic bass. I think that the W4 more have more and is nearly as controlled. The bass is really well done on the W4 and a little bit more fun than the SE535 without getting muddy.

Can anyone tell me if the bass of the Westone 4 can equal the bass of the SE535 ? Thank you!

x3 - but if he prefers a bigger boomier bass (but bloated) the um3x might be better in this respect. I personally prefer the controlled detail of the bass the W4 puts out. It's amazing.

Yeah, for me the UM3X bass was way bloated. The general sound signature is good; I enjoyed the UM3X for months. But when you realize how bloated the bass is...geesh. I couldn't go back.

W4>SE535, Cleaner and excepting of EQn' Not necessarily more or equal. If you prize being
able to visualize a performance over a presence then W4>SE535. I own both and Bass is the least diff in sound sig.

Agreed on needing burn in. After time though, you're brain will burn in and what ever "muddy" you noticed will become norm. For me, they are a little too warm and I never gave them the time for my brain to burn in!

.... The W4 isn't even muddy out of the box. It doesn't need burn in.
