Hello,

The bi-flanges coming from Sensorcom that worked very well with the Sm3 also work very well with the W4...

I don't know what happened but after 75+ hours of normal usage and 10+ hours of burn in they sound better. Highs were very slightly screechy before but now that is gone and overall a nicer sound.

jus got my w4 in today.  they sound good but def. not up to my old JH16s.  these seem more laid back... less clarity.  overall im happy with them tho since i had to downgrade. using the foam tips.

Try the new Earsonics bi-flange tips.  They improve clarity while still maintaining as good of bass as the foams.  Best non custom tip I've found for the W4's.

i dont think biflanges ever worked for me, but ill consider them. thanks! i actually might have a couple from my old earphones.

I never liked bi-flanges either until these. They are comfortable to me but the key to their sound is the much larger sound hole. Most flanged tips made for narrow bore nozzles have really small sound holes, which rob treble detail and clarity. These are new, made for the sm3 but also fit the W4 without modification. Only 2 euro a pair. Earsonics sent them to me in the USA pretty fast. I bought 2 pair to make shipping worth it.

This has got to be one of the very few threads with the least amount of fanboyism and hype, with impressions from many different people, which is a very good thing.

I've personally 'moved on', so to speak, and got the Sony EX1000, and only sold my W4s because I've got my custom ES3X, which shares some of the sonic qualities of the W4. If I didn't have my Westone customs, I'd have kept the W4s and would now have the best two universal IEMs I've ever heard. I'd still wish the W4s had detachable cables, though, like the excellent UM3X & EX1000s.

Hey Shane, What is the actual effect with the Wide Bores on your W4. Does it affect the bass (Less bass in a way) are the Highs maybe now too high. I know you use your Zo with the W4's but maybe you may answer with out the Zo Thanks. I use the Triflange on my Shure 535's and they make it Perfect

I never liked the detachable cable on the um2's when I had them. The memory wire they put on detachable cables is not comfortable to me. I find the westone fixed cable the most comfortable of any cables. Although I can understand why someone would prefer the detachable.

^ The UM2 (& UM3X) removable cables are exactly the same as those used in most custom IEMs. Funny how there are a few people, like you, who don't like removable cables in the UM3X & UM2 -- still fewer, BTW, than those who actually prefer such cables --  yet I hardly ever see anybody saying they don't like their customs' (removable) cables.

I got my westone 4's yesterday and while they are absolutely AMAZING I'm having trouble getting a good seal in my left ear.  I tried the largest of the foam material tips and the tri-flange and it's just not working out.  The right is fine at least.  Can anyone recommend some massive tips bigger than the largest of the grey foam stuff the 4's come with?  I apparently have giant ears. :frowning2:

Have you tried shure's barrel style foams? Those things are pretty big.

http://store.shure.com/store/shure/en_US/pd/productID.105436100 - those ones?  Or do you mean the yellow foam type ones?  The only other question I have (as I'm trapped at work and can't check) is are the Shure tri-flanges different sizes to the ones that Westone distribute?  They looked about the same but I have a bag somewhere of shure tri-flanges that might fit the westones and work better.

I have found my perfect tips for W4 - http://www.meelec.com/product_p/tipset3-tf35l-mrg-bk.htm you will need a spacer though. It has very wide opening at the tip, which seems to be a common trait between Earsonic and Sensorcom tips.

Not the black olives. Those will be similar in size to the gray comply's. Actually I was thinking of the Future Sonic barrel foams as they come in large and it looks like the orange Shures are one size fits all. Check these out:

Also their large bi-flanges are pretty big too:

Both should fit the W4 nozzle without mods.

Edit: I think westone and shure tri-flanges are the same.
Also check out ClieOS thread on tips. He might have some advice for some really big sizes.
