@T.R.A.N.C.E. posted a photo of a Walnut, before they started sanding the P/N off of decoder chip. The image appears to have been lost in the Forum software "upgrade".

It wasn't easy to read the text in the photo, but I believe U3 is in this family of chips - it's got the right number of pins...

Well it seems the chip itself is why we don't have flac support. So much for a firmware update. :frowning2:

Not to change the subject, but for improved capabilities - take a look at the Zishan Z1, or wait for the next iteration of the Walnut.

Using foobar2000, I've converted 252 of my albums of FLAC files, to 320Kb MP3 files (total of ~32GB).
Just to test and make sure they sounded OK, I listened to a few of them, using VLC on the PC, playing through my Micro iDSD, driving a couple of different earphones & earbuds.

As an experiment, I transferred 13 files (albums) to my new Walnut v2 (with socketed NE5532), hooked up a set of Qain25 earbuds, and started the music playing.
Wow, I'm impressed with the Bass!
Then, I switched to Qian39, and the Midrange (vocals), and overall balance, is also impressive.
