I've been loving the W5000 with both the GS-1 and Extreme Platinum.
You can't go wrong either way, but I give the nod to the Extreme for it's ability to add an extra degree of fullness and body. When everything's working just right, the already marvelous W5000 midrange becomes transcendently emotional and intimate with the Extreme. Decay is just a little bit better with the Extreme, and the impactfulness of the bass is very nice.
Again, nothing at all wrong with the GS-1 -- at times, it's a close call as to which is better -- but all in all, my best W5000 moments have come with the Extreme.
The very high current of the 6as7g and 6080 output tubes serves the W5000's well. Best tube combination so far: 7062 / 6as7ga x 2. Just got these very affordable tubes a couple days ago and can't believe how good it all sounds.
