I've been loving the W5000 with both the GS-1 and Extreme Platinum.

You can't go wrong either way, but I give the nod to the Extreme for it's ability to add an extra degree of fullness and body. When everything's working just right, the already marvelous W5000 midrange becomes transcendently emotional and intimate with the Extreme. Decay is just a little bit better with the Extreme, and the impactfulness of the bass is very nice.

Again, nothing at all wrong with the GS-1 -- at times, it's a close call as to which is better -- but all in all, my best W5000 moments have come with the Extreme.

The very high current of the 6as7g and 6080 output tubes serves the W5000's well. Best tube combination so far: 7062 / 6as7ga x 2. Just got these very affordable tubes a couple days ago and can't believe how good it all sounds.

Woah, GS-1 and Extreme Platinum.

This pair versus the AT-HA5000 and Raptor would be an interesting battle.

Not a great trade, methinks. I'll leave your name on the list anyway.

I currently have an extra W5000 if you're interested.

Prolly should remove FEEL HP200SE from the list, don't use it anymore AND don't recommend the combination. Should be getting a W5000 to use with my Millet soon though

Because of this thread, and others, I decided to get the w5000's and the HA5000. I haven't had the opportunity to try anything and I skipped the "start slow and upgrade" path...just jumped right in. I should have all my equipment within the next few days.

I had them at the same time and took some time considering this. I am very happy with the change. The W5000 is still one of my all-time favorites, very special.

That's great, I can imagine how good another headphone must sound if one prefers it over the W5000.

First of all, I have not had any other amps to compare to mine HA5000)...with that said, I am so happy with the results of my research and purchases. The clarity, depth and seperation within my music is just WOW! I would say more but I have a lot of listening and rediscovering to do.

That does not mean that I have sold the AT-HA5000. I think it is a very good amp and am planning on keeping it.

JimP,

I see from your signature that you have both the Meier Corda Opera analog and the HA5000, which are two amps I have been strongly considering purchasing. It sounds like you've found sonic bliss with the W5000 + HA5000, but I've been wondering how close the W5000 + Opera analog combo gets to that level. Can you provide any insight into the differences between the two?

Looks like Team W5000+HA5000 is growing.

I've tried a Corda Opera with the HD650, K701 and Beyers but not with any ATs. It would be great if an owner of both amps can do a comparison.

Besides the W5000, I like the AD2000, W2002, A950LTD, L3000 and Sony SA5000 with the HA5000.

Grados, the HD650, K701 and Beyers don't seem to match as well with the HA5000. I prefer using these headphones with other amps.

I'm curious as to where you all are buying the HA5000 amp?

FWIW I'm a recent W5000 owner, and I'm using the Melos SHA-Gold to power them. Actually sounds fantastic as soon as I stopped cranking the volume to ear-splitting HD650/HP-2 levels.

woah, I've never even heard of audiocubes2! Nice site.

Having said that, I can't find the amp at either audiocubes or audiocubes2.
