*revival*

Just did this to my A900... fantastic! The F5000 mod makes the mid-bass too loud and overpowering imo, but the F5005 is perfect. I kept the grey foam ring, and even added some more softer wadding to the back of the driver and around the grey ring

Thank you, Fitz!
(and everybody else who posted their impressions of the various mods)

The F5005 mod has made me MUCH happier with my recent W5000 purchase. I didn't listen to the stock W5000's too long before beginning this mod! What I do remember about the stock form is that it seemed to have slightly better treble extension and "airiness", but also had that nasty midrange spike and seemingly less bass. The F5005 still has a forward midrange, but it's so much more listenable than before.

The search for my perfect phone doesn't end here, but the F5005 does just about everything I felt my SE530's didn't do. Without this thread, I probably wouldn't have given the W5000 a try.

So, thanks!

PS - any recommendations for my next phone? I like a lot of detail and treble extension, but want a slightly calmer midrange, and perhaps a bit more bass. Edition 9's?

For those of you that have removed the mod, did you find that blu-tak was getting stuck in between the white film and the black plastic housing?

How do you remove it? Does it affect the sound if I don't?

scottiebabie recommended using isopropyl alcohol and cotton buds, but I'm finding it hard to reach those places.

Thanks!

Hey, I've got a pair of stock W5000s that I intend to mod, but before I open the cans up I was wondering where one finds blu-tak these days, being that I live in the US (California, specifically)...

Well I've done it! I picked up some HandiTak at Michaels (basically the same stuff as Blu-Tak) and did the F5005 mod, and I have to say I'm LOVING the bass boost I'm getting. The midrange is still perfect and solid. Now I just need to get back to my dorm so I can put in the proper jumper to put my amp in high-voltage mode.

Hey, I just noticed that the wood of the cans was slightly cramping the bubble created for the F5005 mods. I was wondering how major this little problem was on the audio signature to anyone else that's used this mod? I'll probably fix it soon when I get some time.

The wooden cup is pressing down on the ravioli a tad. Not a major problem to fix, if one at all. Just curious though, since my ears aren't nearly as sensitive as many others' here.
