it's RAP music for a reason

well that's main thing discussed by raze, according to him, korean rappers lack technical prowess in comparison to english rappers, a lot of hip-hop head like this aspect of rap, the complexity delivered in poetic rhyme form, you don't like this or something?

Nah, I fully support this. Was just curious how it was going to be done.

Well, that's bit sad to hear if Raze really feels that way.

Honestly, all I did was present my opinion on what makes rap great for me, and my interpretation of that. Don't accuse me of not understanding the language fully because I'm through and through a full-blooded Korean who just happens to appreciate the poetic aspect of rap that's rooted deeply in Latin-based English. I don't find the language as intricate when applying my definition of poetry to it so that's all that is. As I kept saying, to each his own. I don't know why you gotta feel sad for me as that comes off as condescending toward my views.

Edit: Also, I'm willing to discover more great artists. It'd be nice if you could just helpfully lead me in the right direction instead. I'm not here to disrespect anyone's opinion.

So here's a genuine request: are there any Korean rappers that focus on the technicalities of rap, such that almost everything rhymes, even words that aren't supposed to? I'd be really interested in this.

^^ Honestly, I feel like you guys are persecuting him a wee bit. He comes off as articulate and he does have quite a lot of valid points. Obviously I'm not involved in the debate, but there is a hint of a condescension going around, as he mentioned.

Personally I don't think the language itself is the problem here, just poor execution in general. No one should give a [redacted] about either language being more "legit" than the others (if considering the music itself, not the rap, I would side with the Korean styles anytime) My 2 cents though, leave me out of it.

Anyways, , hopefully we can come back and talk more about rap (of all languages).

I don't think anyone's questioning your family background, I certainly am not. As another Korean, born and raised in Daegu, I am more than happy to see a fellow Korean on this forum. But that being said, I disagree with your views towards Korean poetry.

Yes, there are few rappers who actually does that. Mithra of Epik High does that often.

His verse from Flow.

Breakdown

I certainly agree with TwinQY about the language being "legit" or not.

I italicized the inner rhymes and bolded the outer ones, interesting results imo ,the first verse suggest ease of rhyming with 3-4 syllables, second verse is killer just by a read through and featured 2 couplets that rhymed every syllable

(note: the most syllables I've seen rhymed in one go is 24)

edit:headfi wont do korean for some reason, looks messed up now lol

MTL? Is this the MTL I am thinking of? Or is this different one?

Garion? They aren't worthy of listening to Garion. The Quiett & Fana should be enough.

Korean not fit for rhyming? Are you even Korean? Korean is like, perfect for poetry. Please get your head out of English-centric view. Or try coming back when you actually know what you are talking about.

Oh right, multisyllabic rhyme might be too hard for some.

Let's simplify things.

Here's EH.

Good old I.F and their very carefully crafted story.

Or good old positive music by DD

LOL @ no known DJs. DJ Premier digged DJ Soulscape's works. I think that's more than enough for some credibility.

As far as producer goes, Voda Loca, Shimmytwice, Loptimist, Primary, Soulscape, keeperoots, etc etc.

i'm not trying to get into anything here other than to say those were awesome tracks, thanks for posting.

Wait, wait, wait, Soompi? That thread?
...It explains so much now. I stopped following the thread after page ~200. No wonder the stuff you guys pull out are so familiar.

The avatar doesn't show her with the eye smile. Because I don't feel like melting into a puddle everytime I look at my DP.

haha, yeah don't worry we are still only at page 201 after you stopped.

That eye smile of Fanys is the only thing i still love about her sadly.

Dood we are not even trying to attack you from multiply fronts, it's that you made a BOLD statement about Korean Hip Hop and we are simply trying to prove that your views are somewhat flawed, that's all. It's a healthy/ interesting discussion really. Hence all the numerous examples Suh posts to prove what you claimed is not that well grounded.

Personally I don't think the language itself is the problem here, just poor execution in general. Anyways, , hopefully we can come back and talk more about rap (of all languages).

It's not a total train wreck haha, since we are still talking about hip hop, not like we are talking about SNSD or Kpop or something ooops! Just that we are narrowing it down to Korean Hip Hop for now, Hip Hop from other nations will get the lime light eventually i hope.

That eye smile of Fanys is the only thing i still love about her sadly.

It's not a total train wreck haha, since we are still talking about hip hop, not like we are talking about SNSD or Kpop or something ooops! Just that we are narrowing it down to Korean Hip Hop for now, Hip Hop from other nations will get the lime light eventually i hope.

...Wait, can we talk about SNSD and Kpop?
Introducing, the new and improved Rap sucks 2.0 - now with short spurts of KPop fandom!

Anyways, found some nice trip-hop/instrumental hip-hop http://www.last.fm/music/Esbe/Late+night+headphones+Vol.1&2. Chill stuff. Hopefully this drives everything back on topic. Don't get me wrong, I love that there's an audience for Korean hip-hop and that people are so enthusiastic about it, but it might not seem fair if we crowd the thread and don't let people with other tastes get to contribute their stuff.

Only praise for your MVs was how the last Euro one scared the crap out of me, it was so freaky. But, nah, JK.

LoL, who can "honestly" say they don't "like" Kpop if you knowhatimean.

And who can honestly say they like Kpop for the music HA!
Kpop is omnipresent and permeates everything these days, so what is the use in trying to avoid the topic. No need to beat around the bush, cuz i loves me some Kpop just as any other Asian dood would. Hip Hop and Kpop is truly a match made in heaven.

I understand, definitely a constructive discussion. I was being a bit too harsh and I'm grateful that you guys reintroduced me to K-Rap. I also appreciate the examples that were provided as they are poetic in their content. I just hope you guys felt what I was feeling regarding the grammatical structure though as that still holds true when it comes to pure rhymes. For example (this is for Bokyung), words like 을, 고, 은/를/는, 린/인, the particles with preposition like functions that end the rhymes, are still prevalent, and they're inherently not part of the nouns, verbs, etc. An American equivalent would be akin to rhymes such as "read along/feed along" or "hop anymore/cOcky anymore/drop anymore" that ends by repeating a certain preposition with different nouns or verbs. In American poetry, this is repetition, a rhetorical device, but in Korean, it can't be considered a repetition because it's an intrinsic part of the sentence structure. This is the limitation I was talking about regarding Korean. Of course, there are still plenty of mid-rhymes that precede these which are good overall, but I hope you know what I mean by Korean being limited when strictly dealing with stretching and putting different emphasis on the syllables (electricity can be pronounced e-lec-tric-i-ty, e-lec-truh-ci-ty, e-lec-trah-ci-ty, e-lec-tric-i-tay, etc.). Again, a request: which Korean rappers play with the syllables and their pronunciation to stretch the boundary of the rhymes?

I love discussing the linguistics of rap so please bear with me. I'll shut up about the topic after this and go back to rap appreciation as intended on the thread, haha.
