Its strange VSD3pre-order was closed in 30mins, VSD5 still open ?

That indicates many of our head-fi'ers still havent recovered from the aftermath of NY booze-called The Hangover.... and vsd3/3s were launched mid of 2014, many of us had some leftover(cash) in our plastic card(s) and no gifting commitments either so it was just some blink of our eyes......

For those who wanted to try/buy vsd3/3s and can stretch the budget to the price of vsd5 (if possible) cld try the vsd5 straight,imo......same goes to people who wanted to try/buy GR07s lately cld save $$ on vsd5.....

I'm guessing it won't match the EX1000s level of performance but if the sound-sig were close(especially the mids, timbre, and soundstage) I'll definitely be intrigued.

So, what to expect?

A GR07 CE with a little less bass, much less recessed mids and a little smoother treble? But somehow inferior sound because it's got no bio cellulose and costs almost half of GR07?

Based on ex1000 tuning they may have better sound stage , clarity and less bass. I am a bit skeptical about their bass quantity but ordered them .

Even though the terrible isolation, the Sony EX1000 is my second favorite iem just losing for the jh13, it performs very well in classical musics. I've pre-ordered the vsd5 and I'll make some comparisons when it arrives.

How does the Ex1000 sound for modern genres? Pop, EDM, trance hard rock etc. Thanks in advance.

Keep your expectations low, note vsd3 and vsd3s were nowhere near shure or westone.

I've got mine yesterday (SN: 179/6000), I'm in China.
 
This earphone definitely sounds amazing! I have no EX1000 so there is no direct comparison, but VSD5 is way better than my EX800ST (Well, maybe it's not important, EX800ST has a quite different acoustic characteristic with  VSD5 anyway). My VSD5 had completed a burning-in for about 12 hour, and now seems like it is going into a stable condition. This one is not that easy to drive than the VSD3 series and it requires a little bit more power I guess, of course you may plug it into your iPhone or Walkman or whatever portable gears and it will always return you a decent sound, but when I plug it into the earphone amplification jacket of a Musiland Monitor 03 Dragon sound card, this little buddy just sounds like a K240S, which is quite amazing! I don't care if it will beat EX1000 or not, I just like it. I remembered about 4 years ago when I bought a GR07 and listened it for the first time, I couldn't believe it was really a 100% Chinese designed, Chinese made earphone, I was so impressed! And now that kind of feeling's coming back, God I love this one!
