Shouldn't this be a new thread by the way? Sorry if that's the case, as you can see I'm totally new here.

There's a dedicated thread about the VSONIC GR01 here at Head-Fi. Maybe you should have posted your questions there...

Anyways, here's a link to the GR01's thread: http://www.head-fi.org/t/591547/vsonic-gr01-info-impressions-appreciation-thread

Oh and about your experience with using these without the filters, I've tried that as well. Although I've only done it from a friend's suggestion while I had him borrow it for a day or two (he really wanted to listen to them).
The one thing I do remember is that the filter (obviously) tones down the highs, and I guess it's the large boost to the treble due to a lack of filter is perhaps what caused that perceived gain in volume.

Also, how did you manage to lose the filters? You say that it happened as you were trying out a few different tips... shouldn't you notice the filter being gone as you put another tip on?
Yeah, the filter is quite loose, but mine now never really goes loose again, after a bit of determined twisting, lol.

We're talking about a piece of paper that is only about 4mm in diameter.

My first impression was that the "filter" was a metal grid that is not removable from the screwing tip. Wouldn't guess it was just a sheet that could fall off at any time.

Ohhh so you are talking about the paper filter. I wasn't sure whether you were taking about the actual metal bit or the paper itself. But yeah, that thing is really easy to lose.. I've almost lost it myself.
