Vision Ears and Rhines Custom Monitors (formerly Compact Monitors)

I'm thinking about buying the Elysium Universal fit. Most here must have his customized version, but if anyone has the universal version I would like to know if they would indicate the universal version. I want to buy a Universal IEM up to $ 2,900.
I have the universal version of the ELYSIUM. It is one of my favorite iems. While most of the reviews are done with the custom version, Twister6's review is with the universal version. Here is a link to his review. https://twister6.com/2020/07/17/vision-ears-elysium. As with most universals, tips and seal is a part of how the monitor will sound. A few pages back @rev92 did a review with a universal version. My experience is similar to their reviews. I'd also read the custom reviews. I got my ELYSIUM when the universal model was released and these reviews were not available. I trusted @mvvRAZ and @Deezel177 reviews along with hearing the tour demo. Hope this helps.

You do know they have now released a universal line of their VE series don’t you?! Although I’m not sure when they begin to ship.
Yes, that is why I said a "true" VE8 universal. The universal I reviewed was the demo.

Has anyone got their hands on the VE8 universal yet?
The universal demo just arrived today for me (awesome faceplate!). Anyone know if the new universal release is supposed to vary slightly in tuning?

I doubt it but would be cool if VE could chime in. How do they sound anyway?
These are early impressions but so far:

The tuning is awesome-musical, soulful, engaging. VE obviously has perfected their tunings.

I know you’re a Legend X guy so compared to that, I feel LX is actually a bit more superior technically. VE8 seems to suffer from BA timbre unfortunately as midbass focuses over sub. The treble is also pretty rolled off on VE8, where as even tho the LX’s treble is laid back, it seems to have better extension. Both are warm and thick although VE8 is a bit faster, not surprisingly. But it is pretty slow compared to most all BA IEMs I’ve heard. LX more L shaped, VE8 more mid centric.

VE8 has strong left to right staging but not much depth, compared to the Ely for example. Male vocals sound great, and the texture on lower mids are very convincing to my ears. It’s more of a “just let the music play” listen, which would likely work for most individuals who aren’t treble heads.

Nice, thanks for that. Yeah I’m still blown away by the legend X’s technicalities when I was listening to them earlier today. I would like something as / more technical but still fairly musical in nature... I guess that leaves Odin

Yeah we can only wait for VE’s next DD beast (because they seem to make great use of DDs in the Ely for the mids), or of course a LX successor haha. VE Meister looks interesting too

If VE manages to create an IEM that retains their mids with good DD bass I’d be all over that.

I have had Erlkonig for a few days as part of a tour and I posted my review/impressions here: https://www.audiodiscourse.com/2020/12/vision-ears-erlkonig-review.html

This thing is buttery smooth with great resolution and imaging. I really like it. Its super weighty, yet comfortable, unlike other heavy large IEMs I've tried (e.g. Solaris, Z1R, ME1, etc). It's obviously very expensive so hard to recommend unless you have big bucks available, but I really think its a nice product with top technical performance and a good warm and inviting sound.
Thanks for the review. The interesting thing about the Erlkonig is that the more you use it, the more you realize the extra connection to the music it provides. It is just more lifelike or real to me vs the Elysium or VE-8. And unlike the VE-8 and Elysium, as more bass is present in the recording, the Erlkonig will provide it.

I too find it terrific with rock and jazz. Tks.

Hi there,

The new universal line is basically exactly the same as the latest demos were before. A slight difference is in the nozzle, as it is a liitle bit shorter and oval instead of 100% round.

Sound wise, there have not been made any adjustments.

All the bestg,

Johannes
