V-MODA Shield Design Discussion

I just got a sample pack from 3M (http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/Graphics/3Mgraphics/Products/Series1080?WT.mc_id=www.3mgraphics.com/1080) which includes a carbon fiber wrap. I am going to try covering my shields and will post pics. I'll have to use an exacto knife on the ports...

Ok here is a bit of a weird idea. What about a carbon fiber look, would that even be possible or would it turn out just like a checker board

Hi guys,

I'm looking to buy a pair of Phantom Chrome LPs from the "Private Sale" section on V-Moda's site, along with some custom shields, and I had a few questions:

1. Has anyone had any experience buying from the Private Sale bit? (i.e. this bit: http://v-moda.com/verified-crossfade-lp/) I assume they're headphones that V-Moda has refurbished and checked for quality control? Only choosing them because I'm strapped for cash but have been craving some decent cans for a long long time, and as long as the quality is ok, I can't pass up the opportunity to get them at a lower price. Also, I'm a basshead, so the original LPs (from what I've heard) are the perfect model...

2. I'm thinking of getting Blue custom shields - does anyone know what that might look like on the Phantom Chrome model?

3. I'm having a hard time choosing between images to put on the shields, and because I know almost nothing about graphic design and have no experience of photoshop or illustrator, I was wondering if someone here might be able to help out! I've got 5 potential designs that I need to pick, and just want opinions on how well they would work/which ones look good...

(Just for context, I'm a Leo and my initials are NN, hence why I've got the following choices:)

(A) I found this other day and thought it was cool because I've always loved that my initials are reversible, but I think it might need jazzing up a bit. Would anyone be able to help make it a bit sexier? I'm useless with design software and would really appreciate some help

(B) I like this one because it has a tattoo feel to it, which I think lends itself quite well to the shields...

(C) Similarly, this one is also cool because of the tattoo feel to it - any thoughts on how it compares to (B)?

(D) I saw recently that V-Moda are getting better at using grey shading on the engraving, so I thought this might be cool...

(E) Finally, this one - it's got the Leo symbol, which I like, but is it too detailed to work?

I'd really appreciate thoughts/comments etc, and if anyone is willing to help out with making the designs more suitable/jazzing them up a bit I would be incredibly grateful!

Thanks!

(Edit: the images should hopefully be embedded in the post now...)

Anybody know how these were engraved? Saw them on the Facebook page...

That looks like a sticker on the chrome shields. See how the edges of the symbol are slightly raised?

Hi guys!

I made this account just to place this message. I hope you guys can help me with my question.

Has anyone got any experience on brush metal plate engraving? I've seen only few pictures of such work, none black and white only designs to be honest. I've only seen those two engravings with shading. Is it a good plate to engrave small details on? You can see my desired design below.

I have designed two pairs of shields:

Crimson red w/ MM theme:

And one highly detailed for that matte brush metal:

How do you think they'll turn out? I have no experience on custom shields as I'm only about to buy my first pair of V-Moda.

I think the last one looks good. But I am a Matte Black lover...but I bought the white M100s, go fig lol....

I really like the last one, and the details will show up well IMO. I only bought one custom so far, but they have come a long way. If you look on their facebook page, you can see a few very detailed shields.

I have matte brush.
http://i.imgur.com/C97CFu8.jpg, fyi your going to need to invert your colors everything white is color of the shield or have them do it, and everything not white gets lasered. I like the small details on mine its like a piece of art. Personally I wouldnt go with words, just because you will have people trying to read your headphones all the time, when you where them out. But I like the terriblefate one the best I think that imagine is pretty raw.

Yes, I know how the thing works with the colors. I just inverted them for you guys to get a better picture of how they'll come out.

Geez... I can't decide whether I want White or Shadow or even that matte black! They all look great with different shield colors :3

Hi I am about to order a pair of White Pearl M80's and am thinking of getting Matte Black shields, I have mocked up a design at the link below. Any thoughts on how it will come out, any suggestions for improvements?

You cannot cross the green safety-lines on the template. Everything not inside those lines will not be engraved at all. That's what they told me when I contacted them with that question.

I have another question myself:
I see the M100 Shadows come with the brushed metal shields. Are those matte or shiny brush metal shields? Or is there only one pair of shields included to that prize and I can choose that from the colors shown on the M100's page? Will they always come with those empty shields or can I have those engraved and then have another set with different color?
