V-MODA M-100: Discussion/Feedback, Reviews, Pics, etc.

Yeah ive heard some bad things about the pro 900's mids and highs. Which is why i think the m100 is a better basshead instrument. How is the m100 unamped?

The only issue I've ever read on the Pro900 is shrill treble for some people.  I did not experience that at all.

Other than that is pretty much stomps on an M100 from a basshead perspective.  But, to each their own.  If you don't want to try a Pro900 that's your choice.

Ah it seems like my brain has been tellibg me the right thing. Are these comfy for longterm?

This is one of those "it depends" kinds of things. Out of the box? I'd say no given my head and ears. After flattening out the band a bit to reduce clamping pressure and swapping on the XL pads? Hells, yeah. I can, and have, worn them for hours on end without fatigue and only minor discomfort which was alleviated by taking them off for about 10 seconds.

If you live in NYC I do believe that B&H Should have both to try out. And in the case they don't have the M-100 to try out AC Gears in the Village has the M-100s to try. You have the option to try them both with your music, I highly suggest taking advantage of that.

I auditioned a bunch of basshead headphones recently and I found the the dt770 pro to be better than these two. The pro900 has harsh treble which is very sibilant. The m100 has a bit too much bass, and treble is weird. Since its heavily rolled off but has a spike at 11khz its really hit or miss.

Over the year ago I was split between those two cans two, I ended up choosing the M-100 and I do not regret it one bit.

Although the M100s are fine unamped, would an amp such as the schiit magni improve the sound at all?

My M-100 sounds great with the JDS Labs C5, and even benefitted from just an E11. The magni is too powerful for the M-100 from what I have heard though.

M-100 bass is easy to manage with a layer or two of porous tape (see some of my previous posts in the thread). That 10kHz spike adds sparkle for what is supposed to be a very fun-sounding headphone. Tape plus sparkle make for what I think is a great all-around daily driver. A week and a half with mine and I genuinely don't regret picking them over something with better specs on paper but not necessarily better sound and fit and portability.

To each his own. I had them for a weekish and returned em today. They sounded incredible on some songs but for others the bass overwhelmed all the other frequencies. The 10k spike would sometimes amplify a random noise on some songs making it annoying and leaving the important treble in the back. These cans are great for electronic music but not for vocal driven music.

The DT770 Pro with an amp/DAC costs less and sounds much better. With the EQ you can make bass and treble levels perfect.

Also I don't think I should have to use paper towels and tape to make $300 headphones sound better and be comfortable. Just my $0.02.

DT770 Pro lists at $230. Any portable amplifier that's better than the one in my DX50 is going to cost at least $190 (JDS C5), probably more. Neither my N-3DS nor my PS Vita have EQ systems so there's no making things "perfect" that way. Double-amping my Sansa Clip Zip isn't on the agenda.

My M-100 cost $300, the XL pads cost $20, and a spool of paper tape cost $4. The tape tweak makes my M-100 sound good with the consoles and my DX50 and my Clip and several other sources. No EQ needed. No extra weight or bulk or tangles from an amplifier and associated cables. And it cost a hundred bucks less than your suggestion.

A paper towel sheet costs 1-2 cents if you buy rolls in bulk at BJ's or Costco or free if you pocket a couple from a public rest room. In bang-for-buck terms it's far better than spending $200-$600 on an amplifier.

$200 for dt770, $65 for fiio e7 (if only portable use) or $90 for fiio e07k (if for portable and PC use). And I'm in Canada so prices may be cheaper down south. The e07k has treble and bass adjustments (10 steps each).

A $200+ amp isn't necessary for most.

Did you order them? I just ordered mine today and I am so pumped to get them!

I have had the M80 for quite a while, but the on ear thing just hasn't worked for me. I tried the momentums and the M100 recently and the M100 is the one that I liked best.
