Helpful to know what source(s) your plugging into?

Also define "better bass"... I guess you're into more textured, less boomy bass right?

By better bass do you mean better quality? Because you're almost definitely going to lose the sheer quantity of bass when moving from the XB500 to just about anything.

M-Audio Q40 comes to my mind, another would be Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro but with that you're gonna need an amp. Ultrasone HFI-580 too but it might be slightly too basslight for your taste coming from a XB500. If quantity would be a concern the Audio Technica PRO700MK2 will certainly deliver bass, but better quality than XB500 too but the comfort is so-so for several people using the stock pads.

Good recommendations, all of them. My top two in this list for your purposes are the DT770 Pro (though to get the combo of quality and quantity from this you probably need to amp them as already mentioned) and the PRO700MK2. I like the Q40 and the HFI-580, but the Q40 suffers compared to the A-T when talking about vocals and the HFI-580 I never found to be exciting or involving.

Really? Care to explain what you didn't quite like with Q40's vocals versus PRO700MK2? Just curious as I find them very pleasing with the vocals but it may be cuz of my simple padmod and weird amp/software setup (I use a custom tweaked foobar2000 dolby headphone config) :)

I may just be a sucker for the A-T house sound, but I find the vocal presentation on the PRO700MK2 to be nearly perfect (I find the same aspect of the ATH-M50 flawless, which is the only reason I still own a pair despite its many caveats). The Q40 is definitely a better value all-around considering that it's priced at the same point that the ATH-PRO700MK2 once went for, but the vocals of the Audio-Technica surpass that of the Q40 for my listening enjoyment.
