Took battery out, inserted back - it's working now. Thank you. What was that?

Probably just a glitch in the firmware that stops it from shutting down properly.

Naive question from a nube.  What amp does the 801 ship with installed in the player and what's the one that comes with it but is not installed, and can I use my Shure IEM with the amp that ships installed in the player or should I first replace that module first?  Thanks.

In my opinion the Gangi board is better for IEM's specially if you listen at low volumes.

I can not comment on damage to IEM's, some of which are 16 ohm. What I am pretty sure of is that your hearing will most likely suffer if you are not careful with a very efficient IEM used with the full size can board. BE CAREFUL!

First, thank you so much for helping me out with this matter.  I value your opinion very much and I want to make sure I understand your advice.

My understanding is that the 801 now ships with 2 boards.  One is pre-installed in the player.  Is that the Gangi board, and is the Gangi board the one you referred to as "full size can board" in your previous post?  Also, is the other board that comes with the 801 the "better" or safer one to use for IEMs?  Thanks.

The gangi board is the one for IEM's (pic below). Based on the latest pictures I have seen the gangi board is not the one that is installed. If you want the gangi to be the board installed at the factory I would ask for them to make it so, good luck and thanks.

With foobar2000, dbpoweramp and probably other software as well (this is for pc, I have no idea for mac or linux).

It also will not play all 24/96 correctly, it really is a bit hit and miss

Is this the board also known as GAME?  Thanks.

No, it's the Standard V2.0 module. It's for iem's. The blue colored amp board is for full size headphones and has more bass.
