I've heard from a very reliable contact that unique melody are currently working on releasing the first ever dynamic/armature driver custom in ear monitor.
From what i hear, these have already been designed and um are working on the last of the tuning.
It is said that these will comprise of 2x mid armature drivers, 2x high armature drivers and 1 dynamic driver for the lows.
Unique melody expect to release these on to the market in the next 2/3 months but have not indicated what price these might be.
They will retain the um sound signature with a little more emphasis on the lows.

If you hear anything else then please post here, this is all i know for the time being.

Unfortunately for UM that the tile of 'first' is not they to take. UE already made a dynamic+armature custom early this decade called the UE-Hybrid. It is the precursor of the later Super.fi 5 EB.

This is not even the first dynamic/armature custom. There is an Italian company which makes these (Average_Joe even bought one) and there is a Chinese company which has made them.

I have a question about UM: Do they dominate the market in China or are their competitors keeping up with them? What do performers in China tend to use?

My apologies for the mistake, I had no idea other companies had already made this!
I was just going by what um had told me saying that they are doing something unique to go with their name, unique melody.
Seems um most likely don't even know that these already exist.

Not need to apologize. UM is making something quite unique indeed. At least I don't know any 5 drivers hybrid - that will probably be the first. I am looking forward to read more about it.

One TWFK, one DTEC/3300, and One 8mm dynamic. There you go 5 drivers. Or i'm going to guess Two TWFK's, and the single dynamic. Either way, sounds interesting if it's true.

Wow Kruzin, I guess you heard it from me? Haha.

I'm aware that it is not the first IEM with the combination of dynamic and armature drivers, but I guess it is still unique in a way that it is the first top tier mixed IEM.

There are some Chinese companies from mainland that has already been doing the mix IEM's, but definitely not 5 drivers!~

We have decided the name to be UM Merlin as to follow the Marvel, Mage, Miracle.

Hopefully it will be released early December as all of us are working on it at the moment~

Cheers.

I will ask you the "10 questions"

Why did you choose to use mixed transducer types?

What will the sound signature be? Will it have slightly more robust bass response? How will the balance between the bass, mids and highs be?

Who is the intended audience for the Merlin versus your other iems such as the Marvel, etc.?

Will it be vented for the dynamic and how will be vented? How will that effect the isolation?

What other innovations will there be besides the mixed transducer types?

What will the price be?

Can I buy one?

Sorry that I can't answer your 10 questions at the moment. When the new model is out, I will put up a thread with descriptions from UM.

These look very interesting, but there is yet another dynamic/BA custom out there...check out the EP-10 Plus here.  I will be posting a comparison review between the EP-10 Plus and another custom soon...
