BTW, has anyone ever measured how low the Pro 900 go? Because I feel the sub-bass could be bumped a bit.

ok you've made me want to spring for the silver pads. from what you've said it seems like silver pads + BD cable would be awesome. probably going to get them tonight

as to your question about the 2900 or 900, i haven't heard the 2900 but the only difference is that the 2900 is an open headphone whereas the 900 is closed. i would imagine (again... haven't heard it!) that the 2900 would have a slightly better soundstage, probably a bit less bass quantity, and you'd obviously be able to hear more from around you/more sound would leak. i see a LOT more people talking about their 900's than i do the 2900's, but that also means nothing. i chose the 900 based on the consensus that it was "the" headphone to get for EDM and just plain 'ole bass. boy am i happy :)

I see. Just recently auditioned the 2900 versus Edition 10 and i was shocked that the difference isnt that big. The ED10 even sounded too hot and sharp at times. The 2900 on the other hand impressed me right from the very first few seconds regardless of genre. Looks like i will be getting it soon. The bass is really yummy

I would.  I definitely do not regret buying them.  The shipping / delivery was pretty fast.  I ordered them Friday and got them today.

I tried it with a tone generator and the lowest I could still hear/feel something was ~12hz, but of course at that point it was a barely audible flutter.

Didn't someone say the Blue Dragon improves the sub-bass?

Just curious shamrock, but a lot of your headphones are considered bass heavy and would be good with the same genres - which headphones are your favourite :)?

Haha, yes I've been on a bit of a quest for my perfect basshead cans so I've collected most of the bass heavy headphones and IEMs in an attempt to find the ultimate one. There are still many more to try, but not enough money!

It's hard to pick a favourite. The Pro900 are probably my go-to for electronic music, the D7000 for general listening and my recently purchased DT770/32ohm (NOT bass heavy at all) are now my gaming can until I find one that is better for positional audio cues. The Edition 8 has yet to impress me with any genres that have a bassline.

I had hoped the XB1000 would be my guilty pleasure/fun basshead can, but it just doesn't do it for me. The XB700, XB500 or D1100 are better if I feel the need for a bass induced headache.

The ES10 is my fave portable over-ear.

I always wanted an open Ultrasone. I was saving up for the 2900 but then decided that Ultrasone is more like the perfect backup phone. My main headphone should be true "hifi": more neutral, better balanced, less fun and more seriousness... and open.

So I ordered the PRO 900 earlier this week as a closed, fun, semi-portable backup 'phone. I have now already started saving up for the T1.

Ok, my initial impression of the Pro 900s with the Blue Dragon+Silver Velvet pads is very good.  It does bring back the bass but the cable itself helps clear up the sound so it's a matter of the Pro 900s being more comfortable, looking better aesthetically, and not having a curtain over the mids / highs.  The bass is more solid but not muddled at all, though I personally never found that to be a problem for the 900s.  It just seems as if the bass is tighter and has more "umph".

Overall, I think this is as good as the Pro 900s can get until I can afford to upgrade to a nice matching tube amp.

I love it.  If you are short on funds, I'd get the silver velvet pads.  If you can afford it, I would get both.

You get comfort, better appearance, a better sound stage, tighter bass, and clear highs / mids.

Sorry that I got back so late, but, thus far, I'm really disappointed with the J$ pads. In fact, I haven't even tried gluing. It's not that they sound bad, atleast they didn't when I taped them to the earcups to demo the sound. The problem is that I feel cheated, as they definitely aren't made of leather and look rather poorly made. It is clearly advertised, on the J$ page, that they are made of lambskin leather and only employ the best materials. I'm no leather specialist, but it's obvious to me that they aren't made of leather. My audio technica esw9 provide as a perfect source of comparison... So now I'm uncertain as to what I should do. I really don't want to have to go through the stress of sending them back to Canada and, to be honest, I bought them for the sound improvement, so build quality is not of utmost importance. Nevertheless, I can't get rid of the bad taste this transaction with J$ has left in my mouth.

Colmastard and Nachkebia, do you share the same experience?

I just recently switched to the silver pads, and I agree that they lose a slight amount of bass impact, and seemingly bring out the mids. I could instantly hear more details in the midrange that I couldn't before, but I missed the bass a bit too. Although I will say they are definitely more balanced this way. I will probably be picking up the Blue Dragon in a couple of weeks based on al the positive impressions here, and am excited to see if they do indeed remove the 'curtain' people refer to here. I agree there is a curtain over the mids/highs, but they are not muddied at all, and still extremely detailed-kind of a weird phenomena IMO. FWIW, my Pro 900s currently have 650+ hours of burn-in on them.

I will go on to say that these are EASILY the best movie and gaming headphones I have ever heard, and by a landslide too! They provide an extremely accurate soundstage for gaming, and the bass doesn't get in the way of any positional cues whatsoever. They even beat out the mighty K702 in that regard. For movies I have never really enjoyed headphones in the slightest-but I absolutely love them with these Pros. And that's going against some other cans that a lot of headfiers enjoyed for movies, such as the D2000s and DT990s. I didn't enjoy either for movies myself, frankly.

As much as I currently adore these headphones for almost everything, I am still looking to find a second headphone for my primary music can, for one glaring flaw: TONALITY. I agree with others who say that the tone of vocals, instruments etc do not sound natural. Coming from an AD2000 kind of spoiled me for it proved to me that a guitar can actually sound like a REAL guitar. I didn't know what I wass missing until I had heard that-and it's hard to go back frankly. So I see a W1000x or fat-modded AD2000 in my near future.

Isn't that just because the black pads have been worn in and your silver pads have not?

well there's a theory some people have that part of burn-in includes getting used to the sound and feel of the headphones. Similarly, you have to kind of get used to the material of the padding for the headphones, and you could be right about the silver pads not being worn in enough, but i think it's just a matter of personal preference at this point

Probably not because I only have about 50 hours of head time on the black ones, if that. They've basically been wrapped up in a blanket for the past month burning in, and infrequent listening sessions with music, movies and games.
