I deleted my order for Mapleshade's brush.

After 2 weeks with no word I finally called them, they said that the brush was on back order.

They couldn't send me an email telling me that?
 
Then they said that they had a black one in stock (why didn't they send me that) I didn't specify the color?

I cancelled my order and ordered the AcousTech Big Brush w/Ground Strap from Needle Doctor.

I should be getting it any day now (3 day turn around).
 
Won't be ordering from Mapleshade again.

Well... Mapleshade is a small indie trying to make a difference. I've spoken to a few employees on the phone at length (business; social chat) the past three years and they really do care. And being thinly staffed to secure the thin margins found in this hobby, they work hard.
 
I understand what it is like to wait though, especially when there's no communication. However, until they fail me, I'm going to do my best to help them help me.

My first Mobile Fidelity pressing arrived today (Foghat - "Fool for the City"). If you'll excuse me, I now have to clean some brain matter off of my computer screen 

 
Seriously, if you've never heard an MFSL-pressed album, you owe it to yourself to check it out.

Yes, MFSL were great. Unfortunately, music selection not exactly my cup of tea, but from the technical point of view, particularly of the JVC super vinyl they used, hard to criticize.

Only one I have is their release of The Pixies Doolittle, it's a half speed master and it blows the cd out of the water, sounds great

I have a catalog of MFSL pressings that keeps growing.  Many times their release has become the 'definitive' version of a given record.  Dark Side, American Beauty, Court of the Crimson King, Nevermind, Abbey Road, Low Spark, Blind Faith-- I have many copies of these and very few of the other issues and reissues can touch the MFSL version.  These guys know how to press records.

It's absolutely wonderful (MFSL stuff). Still haven't spun my Santana MFSL or Costello MFSL yet. Been meaning to get that Foghat record.

Edit: I've also found Mapleshade has a bit poor communication. Just email or call and they're vey helpful. Plan to order more in the future.

Guess I will have to check recent MFSLs then. MFSL went through at least one owner change and different people bring different qualities to the table. 
 
I sure do agree , whoever MFSL guys were or are, they always chose the best pressing they can possibly find at any given point in time.
 
But according to Stan Ricker, the man that made many half speed masters for MFSL, he was given an order to equalize at least few of them - in order to give audiophiles "more"  than provided on the master tapes. I certainly understand how and why is it possible to make a vinyl record mastered at half speed to sound better than analog master tape itself - but applying EQ to master tapes to further "enhance" the SQ is taking too much liberty in my opinion.

I honestly prefer new MFSL to Classic MFSL vinyl. I've found better sounding LPs than some of the classic stuff (I honestly think DSOTM 2011 is better than the MFSL).

The newer stuff (since the new owner took over) is all pretty much flawless though.

Chicago Transit Authority, Crime of the Century, Bridge Over Troubled Water-- beat any other copy I've ever heard, and those are first series.  If I could think of a record that fell short I'd point to it-- I just can't.
 
I bought DSOTM new (reissue) about 3 months ago-- not sure which edition it was, but the transitions were all messed up.  The recordings were nice-- but the points at which the songs changed were all abrupt.  The record didn't flow the way even my old Columbia label (which warped in storage) did.  That's when I went on a hunt for a clean MSFL, and it delivers-- at least to my ear.
