The MFSL Santana Abraxas sounds amazing!

BTW, I have 3 DSOTM ( but not a MFSL version) including the Japanese Pro Use version, while I do like the album, I don't hear what all the fuss is about? Anybody care to enlighten me? What am I missing?

I think you're missing almost every track except Money...lol
 
Money is a mediocre song, IMO. Almost everything else is fantastic about DSOTM.
 
All the way up until Money is more 'experimental' than the last half of the album. Great Gig in the Sky is probably my stand out pick on the first half. As for everything after 'Money' you're getting more 'traditional' Prog Rock. More vocals, and in general a bit quicker pace. Us and Them is still slow, but it's also my favorite track on the album.
 
I get just 'not liking Floyd' but if you like Floyd and don't like DSOTM...you're weird.
 
Disclaimer: It's not my favorite album of theirs.

I totally agree that the "new" MFSL records are better than the "Classic" ones. Except for the very end of the original MFSL, while the pressings were good, it was not heavy vinyl. Some classic MFSL stuff was incredibly good, but some was merely "very good".

MFSL went bankrupt when one of their distributors stiffed them for a large sum of money. Online retailer Music Direct bought MFSL out of the bankrupcy and put them back in business. They operate somewhat independently but are owned by Music Direct.

Sorry, I can see that my earlier post is rather vague and confusing.
Usually I listen to the whole album straight thru because I like all of the music on DSOTM and I think it sounds better when I listen to it all the way thru. So i certainly do like Pink Floyd and I do like DSOTM.  I also like Wish You Were Here and The Wall.
 
But while I think the recording is very good, I just don't think the recording is fantastic or remarkable. It just sounds like a very good rock recording. I have the 30th and 40th anniversary vinyl and the Japanese Pro Use vinyl.  I think the Japanese Pro Use is the best of the three.
I think The Wall is a better recording.
Just my opinion folks............YMMV.

Yeah, I didn't think you meant recording quality. It's by no means a perfect, or even very special recording for the time. I'll agree with you on that.
 
Lots of people I know use it as a test record and I'm not sure why.

Wish You Were Here and Animals are godly. I love DSOTM but it might be just a tad over-rated, like saying any album after In The Court Of The Crimson King just isn't as good.

The point was King Crimson has a bunch of very awesome albums much like Pink Floyd.

DSOTM was/is used for its spacial cues. A stereo set up decently will make the walls disappear with it. If they don't, the speakers need some moving.

And Red is devoid of all unnecesary frills - King Crimson at its raw priemeval honest basics. Searching for a copy with Robert Fripp approval on EG label does pay off.

I have a question about buying vinyl again. This time is isnt so much as to where to buy it but how or what I should buy. (its also confusing because all these labels tend to buy each other out)

• There are so many different label s on just one specific album especially the older ones. Which one do I get?

1. Dave Brubeck's Time out labels include Columbia, CBS, Analogue Productions and then has random ones such as Not Now Music
2. Does one for for name brands such as Mofi, Analogue Productions ($20-60-infinity) and maybe even Sony, Atlantic, Capitol ($30ish) or just get whatever for $20 or less off ebay.

 
I suppose this is why there are record stores and sites like elusivedisc because hopefully they dont sell sucky sounding albums (in the case of engineering production and not musically). Not saying that they dont at all but maybe less than ebay since they're sort of like collectors. 
 
I was a little naive about labels when purchasing records for the first time and just bought based on price and accessibility (amazon and ebay)Thankfully I got lucky and most of them were capitol or Atlantic which I can live with and I guess i will return the no name brands and try again. 
Also what do you guys do with like mainstream or newer music?
 
Sorry im all over the place with my writing. Im a bit sad because The Orbit turntable got pushed back 2 months due to actual exceeding expected number of units.
