Torque t096z IEM tour - Reviewers wanted!
Sep 23, 2015 at 1:02 PM Post #17 of 78
You'd be surprised (or not) how many reviewers who do it for a living get to keep gear. Pass the salt!

Any review produced in hopes of being the final "winner" of the earphones based on Torque's discretion will be inherently biased toward favoring the headphones — so what's the point? The reviews will be unreliable.

my MICROZOTL2 recent review.  I have a rather gonzo style of reviewing that can make
products appealing and exciting to audition!

Only $400!? This hobby has become a joke.

Pricing is probably from the cost to produce "Bio-cell diaphgram". The last good stuff from these were

1/ Sony MDR-R10
2/ Sony MDR-SA 3/5k
3/ Fostex TH600/900 ?
4/ Audioquest NightHawk.

Well, I am not sure how it would sound on the 9mm sizes and being in the brass housing. Not even sure if the drivers technology mean what it is (micro porous). If it is what it is, staying inside the brass housing may not be a good idea (reason why I want to hear it for myself). The reason is that these drivers create a lot of trebles without a good resonances reductions, the trebles will be sizzling hots, take stock SA3/5k for example. Take a look at NightHawk, using 3D print to diffuse the resonances out from the grills.

Those were the latest that I knew of which utilize the bio-cell nano porous technology. Regardless, the price is almost as much as a night-hawk...but not a full size HP. I agree that it gets hard to swallow.

But anyways, very interesting indeed. Something new is always a good thing where as many would stick with BA drivers for speed, and portability/compact for IEM....yet we are seeing a new bio-cell driver

In answer to the message suggesting that the earphone would be very bright.  The treble isn't 'sizzling hot'.  I'm not noticing any sibilance or treble spikes (which at some frequencies bother the hell out of me).  The first words I'd use to describe the bio-cellulose drivers are controlled and refined.  The presentation (regardless of valve choice) is tight and fast.  Soundstage isn't huge but I've yet to hear a single dynamic driver IEM present a truly 3D/out of the head presentation.  I can say everything is extremely coherent and bass texture is better than most of the BA based drivers I've heard.

I think the t096z are much better than the Flare R2As; the only areas they lose out on is soundstage size and comfort.  The latter is a result of my small ears, a reason I favour small bodied IEMs.

I think we'll choose 2 experienced reviewers and one not-so-experienced reviewer a chance to build up a resume. I think that sounds fair, yeah?

Fair is fair.

I updated my review list since I couldn't update my other reviews that were posted on headfi.

Seems like a very interesting IEM to review and similar to those I enjoy most.  Count me as interested in reviewing, though I have not done any recent reviews.

I have moved to CA, and will be interested to review.

Two of my favourite earphones that I use till day are JVC HA FX 1000 and Panasonic HJE 900, though these are old, I like the quality of timbre and bass and enjoy the earphone straight out of Hifiman HM 601LE.  (Not the usual or most popular ones now a days, but I really enjoy the sound quality from this setup a lot.)

I can compare how this Torque t096z IEM would compare in sound signature to these.
