Toranku's Thoughts and Reviews (and target EQ filters!)

I've had er4xr earlier this year but returned it. It doesn't mean I didn't like and returned it, just lots of iems I had at that time, that was the reason. Also, I've ordered er2se from Amazon today but after 30mins I cancelled it. I thought for a second what if it's not on par er4xr and rather flat sound character etc. Must be as good as er4xr for me to use on daily commute. Otherwise another iem to be collected dust potentially. However, I read some people prefer er2se to any etymotic iem sonically. To sum up I didn't find er4xr bass monster but also it wasn't bass shy at all. I see that er2xr too bloated unfortunately that's why I picked er2se at the first place.
I had er2se and returned it and thought er4sr would be an upgrade but not really. I like er2se more than er4sr.

@toranku would you say any etymotic model might be better than sh3 or vice versa?

The closest Ety to sh3 would be ER2XR. Staging is a weak point in Etymotics which I feel SH3 does much better. SH3 treble is also more extended than 2XR. Only area that 2XR does better is with its bass response. 2XR hits really deep into the subbass while SH3 goes for more of an overall warm approach with a neutral subbass.

SH3 with extended sub bass sounds about perfect then

Just tried it, I agree with this impression.

First Impressions: Fearless Roland

Very plastic-y timbre. If you have heard Shure SE846, the timbre sound similar. Has those same grainy mids with a touch of warmth. Bass doesn't feel that solid, has a certain feeling of hollowness within. Thus the bass doesn't even feel impactful and sounds aritificial. Subbass does extend but the lines can somehow end up sounding hollow.

Midrange is balanced with lower mids taking precedence over the uppermids. Uppermids, especially with female vocals lean on the thicker side of the spectrum, though I don't feel that they are suppressed sounding. The timbre of the mids can be a big turn off with the graininess that is also exhibited in the 846. Perhaps inadequate pinna comp or due to a big null/dip in the treble.

Treble is barely there. I can't hear much of it. It's very dark. Due to the tonal balance lacking treble overall, drums sound veiled and lacking of air/snap. In the event that the song is mastered to be brighter, you can hear that simblance of treble that's smoothly extended quickly downwards.

Overall plasticky, hollowed timbre with almost non existent highs. The tone and timbre is such a huge turn off. Doesn't sound dynamic and sounds like a integral part of the treble response is MIA.

Thanks.
Just ordered a pair of ER2XR. Hoping it's bass not bloated to mids.

XR is an amazing set and one of the best under $500 easily. Problem for me is my ears do not like the fit. If you are worried about bass though, do not get the XR, get the SR.

First Impressions: Audiosense T800

V-shaped but not a super intense listen. Bass boost has bloated bass transients. Midrange is decently tuned - much recession in the lower mids but vocals still cut through rather easily with plenty 2-4k. Extra bass and warmth gives vocals enough body. Treble has a small spike in the midtreble (8kHz onwards) which gives it sparkle like the Andro. Extension on the upper end is average. In some poorly mastered tracks with forward cymbals, the T800 can be a rather intense listen due to the treble elevation coupled with the low mid recession. If not I wouldnt say its bright. Only in some tracks the harshness can show.

Overall decent but also shows smearing with its transient response especially at the bass region. Decent layering/separation capabilities. But for something similar, I think the FIBAE7 is a more polished product, offering much lesser bass bloat and greater treble extension capabilities.
Am thinking of getting the FIBAE7 beacause of this, however, can you compare FIBAE7 with Sony M9? Is the FIBAE7 a better choice if I want better Mids and better resolution. Thanks!

Better is quite subjective here. F7 has quite forward uppermids compared to m9. Outside of tone, I'd say M9 performs much better in technicalities. M9 also can sound a bit boring as well.

No comment other than I like the new avatar.

Just to add more sweets on Tork's M9 impressions, I can see myself ending up my game very soon with my M9. Very happy how scary balance this set is. Go see my iem inventory own/owned/returned/demo and M9 is the best overall. :)
