E-stat amp with balanced inputs and gain switch for $400? Finally!
He’s a very smart guy with strong opinions. I can’t wait to read his thoughts on this unit.probably Birgir will buy one...
Thanks. Wall wort.. Probably room for upgrade PSU
This is the rear, looking at the 15V barrel connector. There is also package contents showing an adapter:

700v 1100 p to peak i thinkwhat is the current output of the amp?
that's not current. That's voltage. The problem with electrostatic amplifiers is not the lack of peak to peak voltage. The problem is lack of current especially in high frequencies. That's what bigger amplifiers do better700v 1100 p to peak i think
That is very true. My badthat's not current. That's voltage. The problem with electrostatic amplifiers is not the lack of peak to peak voltage. The problem is lack of current especially in high frequencies. That's what bigger amplifiers do better
Wonder how much an upgraded PSU will make a difference.. They should sell an optional PSUbooster unitOn the Stax Thread III, Kevin Gilmore said that this amp is sort of a souped-up Koss amp. 15 watt power supply. With that little power, I highly doubt it can sustain 700 Vrms across the entire frequency spectrum. But, it looks like a nice cheap starter amp, and it should be a win based on price and availability alone, since Stax has discontinued the 252S and the low-power SRM-D10 is over twice the price (though portable and DAC-equipped). I'm quite tempted myself.
