Topping D50

Now that's interesting. We started to discuss power supplies issues, and Topping releases a dedicated power supply?

That's timing indeed!

I would love to see what's inside that supply. At least we already know it's linear.

In any case, as long as what they feed in is just one positive voltage, the higher or negative voltages will have to be from DC-DC conversion.

What are the specs on that "A50" ?

I contacted the sales support of Topping on Taobao, which kindly shared the below info.

The model I tested at the CanJam in Shanghai was a pre-build unit and they are still making the final tweakings/debugging.

So far the PROVISIONAL specs are as per the following.

Output: Single ended 6.35+3.5, Balanced 2.5, RCA(No amplification, when you turn off A50, input will output to this output in order to cooperate with other amplifier or devices)
Volume: Electronic control, there will be no problem of imbalance of L & R channel when low volume.
Gain: Selectable 0dB / 9dB

Output power(Single ended):
1000mW x2@16ohm,
960mW x2@32ohm(9dB gain),
600mW x2@32ohm(0dB gain),
140mW x2@300ohm(9dB gain),
66mW x2@300ohm(0dB gain)

THD+N (1VRMS input, A-weighting, 1kHz):
0.0035% @32ohm(0dB gain)
0.0040% @32ohm(9dB gain)
0.0005% @300ohm(0dB gain)
0.0007% @300ohm(9dB gain)

SNR(A-weighting):
124dB(32ohm load, 0dB gain)
118dB(32ohm load, 9dB gain)

Output impedance: 0.7ohm(Single ended)

Market Launch: Q1 2019 (for both: A50 and P50)

That's all.

What improvements will the A50 have? The balanced output (2.5 connector?)?

The P50 doesn't look as if it would be a cheap device. I'd say $150 at least. It would be better if the case was metal.

To describe the improvements we must have a reference, a milestone.....
Price was not disclosed to me, but as I reference I can tell you that the D50 in China costs CNY 1'299 (about USD 190).

All the info that I was given are copy and paste in italic font on my previous post.
I was just chatting online with their seller and that's what he/she was given to share.
Sorry guys.

You are absolutely right, Faber65, you certainly need a reference to judge anything by. I am just curious on what Topping may have changed from the D50.

I think I have interesting news, because I found what seems to be a great external power supply option:

I am waiting for the 20% from AliExpress on 11/11 to buy my D50, but I think I will go ahead and buy the PS in advance.

BTW: which should be the input DC voltage on the D50?

Last weekend at the CanJam in Shanghai, I had the opportunity to test the D50, together with the new siblings A50 and P50 (coming soon).
I carried with me my beloved MrSpeakers Aeon Flow C and I must say that I was positively impressed about the SQ for the money.

I know that SQ is a very personal thing and IMHO the guys at Topping did another pretty damn good job.

Probably the new P50 Power Linear Supply unit is what many of us were looking for.

That P50 looks beautiful!

Do they come in black?
Thank for posting a picture for that and im sure im going to buy it both P50 and A50!

In the meantime, and counting the days until 11/11 to buy my D50 from Aliexpress for $210, I already ordered my eBay regulated supply.

They claim it's based on Walt Jung's regulator, but I will try to get a schematic to confirm that.

Removing the relay could be a tweak worth considering, I just finished doing it and tried everything, the only time it ever pops is when turning on/off. The UDA38 has a pop whenever stopping native DSD playback but the D50 doesnt... it seems really excessive to add a relay just for this one small pop.
Most would be very skeptical of this idea unless they already think that removing a relay from the signal path could help a tiny bit, if you believe it might and are confident with smd soldering id recommend it.
Hi Acke,

I'm interested in removing the relay as well. How would one connect the wiring after the relay is removed? Do you have any pictures?
(*sorry for bringing up an older posts)

The left and right inputs to relay are marked on the pic, after removing it I connected a wire from those PCB pads directly to the RCA pin.
better yet would be to connect a wire from the little test pads marked with yellow arrows.
