Time for the next set

Alright... Here's my issue.  My Sennheiser 598s are great for at home listening, but they are not the greatest thing to carry around campus.  I'd like something more fit for hard rock and metal this time around as well as a different sound signature. (I'm curious...)  So far I've narrowed my choices down to the Grado SR60i, and the Grado SR80i.  I remember the older pre-"i" had different pads, but I think that's changed to both having the "comfies."  My question is if the sr80s are worth the extra dollars over the 60.  Not too sure if I will be modding in the future, but I do want to keep my options open.  
 
Side note: I don't really care if they leak sound.  Those iPod ear buds leak sound like an open headphone anyway, so I'm really concerned about disturbing people.  Also should I consider getting a portable amp to power these, or will they no really benefit much from one?

Get the SR60i since they have more bass and are closer to the HD598 then the SR80i
 
The I version is a lot better.
 
Spend the extra $20 on a set of L-cush pads to replace the comfies.
 
I love my grado for portable and the foam makes for a good sweat wicker.
 
 
Also, look up mods. Mostly replace the grill, which is cheap and easy to do.

You'll regret it later if you don't and you buy half of a 225 when you get the 60/80.

I would not recommend both for the rigors of on the go listening.  I have the 80i's and I think it's to fragile for it.  But if you must, just invest on a hard case.

I guess I did forget to add a budget, but I really do not want to spend more than 100 dollars.  I was looking at the Etymotic HF5 for a bit, and I am still considering them.  The reason I do not want to get anything more expensive is the fact that these will be my "outside" headphones.  I will never forgive myself for ruining anything over 100 dollars.

For sure get the SR60i, and then spend the $20 difference on the L-Cush pads, which will make a much greater sonic impact than whatever the stock SR80i can offer you. 
 
And the SR60i is such a great foundation for modding. You can slowly build your headphones up over time, as your funds will allow. I have done a combination of wood housing, silver recabling, and driver venting on my pair of SR60i, and it's by far my most listened-to headphone. There are aspects that other headphones do better, but **** near unbeatable as an all-around package. Pop into the mod thread for some pointers.
