After weeks of listening to M9 via BAL and SE out of both Sony ZX300 and FiiO Q5, I much prefer the sound from SE. It's more (toe-tapping) fun and musical. In fact, I'm happy with how it sound straight from iPhone X with dongle too. BAL sound kinda polite/sterile, very much in control.

Tested with Sony 3.5mm and 4.4mm stock cables and ALO Litz 3.5mm and 4.4mm cables.

Damn I haven't even tried my M9 in SE mode from my ZX300. I didn't think it would even be worth the try as the SE only outputs 50mw and the M9 is rated at 100mw. What volume are you using in SE mode?

High gain on, around 50-60 on SE outdoor. Indoor, below 50.

M9 sensitivity is rated 103dB/mW so it’s not that hard to drive to audible volume.

Wow my ears must really be garbage because I listen in balanced mode on high gain at about 70-75 for loudly recorded modern pop/rock and around 80-85 for more quiet recordings...are my ears just shot or do you listen at pretty low volumes? Both? haha

I don't think I've ever had my ZX300 past 80 even on low gain with the Z5

I think it's pretty loud at my current level as I can hear sound coming from my earphone if I leave it on my desk playing music/burn-in. Is your unit EU or international version? EU have volume cap.

You seem salty over someones music preferences...Right now I'm listening to Disturbed...in 5 minutes I may be listening to Taylor Swifts pop masterpiece, 1989. Isn't music grand?
